Richard and Amelia (Job) Vincent arrived from Cornwall in 1855. richard was a farmer at Warrenheip. Their children were Richard, Mary, Thomas Job (died in infancy), Thomas Job, Annie, Emily, Selina, Amelia, Ada and George. Annie Vincent married Edward huggins in 1884. Their children were Edith, Robert, Ada, George, Stella, Roy, Lillian, Harold and Ronald. Vincent Avenue, Mount Helen, is named after this family.Provides a record of the descendants of Richard and Amelia Vincent who arrived from Cornwall England in 1855 and became farmers at Warrenheip. A temple tomb in the form of a Greek temple with a triangular pediment. Dark pillars on a flat, paved base support the plinth of the memorial. The memorial is situated on lawn, surrounded by trees and shrubs. Between the pillars, a glass enclosure can be clearly seen. The enclosure was removed at a later date. Harold Desbrowe-Annear designed the Springthorpe Memorial, while Bertram Mackennal sculpted the statuary on the sarcophagus. William Guilfoyle is belived to have advised on the design of the garden.Photographic postcard of the east facing side of the Springthorpe Memorial in the Boroondara General (Kew) Cemetery. The photograph of the tomb record the original glass case surrounding the central group of statuary as well as a man at right contemplating the tomb. An interesting feature is the vine in the foreground covering the chain. The photograph was printed for a historic display at the Bulla Primary School. The children in the photograph who were past pupils of the Bulla State School are Eric Lewis Grant, who was born on 10th September in 1889 and died on 26th March 1969 and Harold Bruce Grant, born 2nd December 1891 and died on 21 December 1934. Further information states that they were 'Ossie's uncles', who was also an old Bulla resident. Bulla State School was one of the earliest schools to be established in the nineteenth century. It was closed down in 1996, which caused much disappointment to the residents.A photocopied print of an old photograph of two boys in a garden. Booklet - Centenary Souvenir of Warrnambool, H. J. Paynter, 1934
In 1934, Victoria and Melbourne celebrated their centenaries. Realising how impossible it would be for the majority of Warrnambool residents to participate in the Victorian celebrations, the organising committee of the Warrnambool Centenary celebrations devised a week long comprehensive programme of activities including exhibitions, a pageant re-enactment at the breakwater and a mass children's display at the showgrounds. Sir Harold Gengoult Smith officially opened the Warrnambool Centenary Exhibition of Arts, Crafts, Antiques and Historical Relics. This booklet was designed and written in 1934 for the Warrnambool Centenary festivities by Frank H. Ford, Lava Street, Warrnambool. The souvenir booklet contains a brief history of Warrnambool, a map and description of Warrnambool and its facilities in 1934.The last three pages include a business directory which would be useful for research.A twenty page booklet printed on shiny paper. The front cover has a black and white photo of nine swimmers in the water (five male & four female) some with surfboards. There is a 4mm green line printed 12mm from the upper edge and a 3mm green line printed 6mm from the lower edge of the cover. There is green printing over the photograph on the front cover. On the rear cover there are two small black and white photographs of an aerial view of the city of Warrnambool and the Hopkins Falls in flood. The green line extend across the rear cover and are intersected by a perpendicular 4mm green line running from the upper to the lower edge 18mm to the left of the spine. Book was awarded to Stephen John Holgate in 1891 for first prize in bookkeeping. Stephen (D.O.B. 09/07/1877) entered the college on 27/01/1890. The original registry notes parent as Stephen Holgate from Miners Rest and Stephen's previously school is noted as 'Home Tuition'. Other family members noted as attending the college are Harold, George, Edward, Robert and Thomas. Archives also hold war memorabilia for Edward and George Holgate.Presbyterian educators placed great value on a classical education matched with diligence in study. Book prizes were highly regarded and academic success admired. In the school’s early years prizes were ordered direct from London and had the school crest embossed in gold on the front or back cover. Many of the prizes given in early years were returned to the school to equip the Weatherly Library when it opened in 1936. The cigareete case was the property of George Harold King who attended Ballarat College from 1926. date of birth 23 September 1916. Georeg was the Son of Alex King 20 Errard St N; brother of Jean and Alex; Prev IV Grade Pleasant St State School. It is possible the cigarette case was a gift or memento from the Old Collegians Association. The case was donated to the school by his niece Jan Millar in 2010. Harold Victor Pulfer was born in Bendigo in 1887 and died 8/12/1940. He lived at 12 Brougham St., Quarry Hill. At the time of his death he was listed as a merchant and left an estate worth 11,782 pounds. By 1912 he was trading as Hamilton and Pulfer from a business in Hargreaves Street, Bendigo. A vintage 1950's collection of Bonzo the dog stories for children with two tone coloured illustrations throughout the book. Bonzo has a lot of fun adventures. These Bonzo annuals were popular from 1935. They ceased publication during the war years and resumed afterwards.A vintage 1950's hardcover children's book with the title Bonzo's Annual printed at the top in green lettering on the front cover.There is a large coloured illustration of the dog Bonzo riding on a rocket above the town rooftops with a smiling full moon in the sky. It is bound on the left side with faded grey fabric tape. The back cover is plain grey coloured.The frontispiece illustration shows Bonzo on a swing attached by ropes to a giraffe's long neck with a monkey and two toucan birds looking on. The Daily Mail printed this handkerchief to raise funds for the "Soldiers' Families Fund" after the outbreak of the Second Boer War (1899-1902. (The Daily Mail, devised by Alfred Harmsworth (later Lord Northcliffe) and his brother Harold (later Lord Rothermere), was first published on 4 May 1896 and was an immediate success.) Patriotic handkerchiefs were popular during the Victorian era and this one featuring a popular song and well-known people was probably the most popular.This handkerchief was produced to raise funds for the families of soldiers involved in the Second Boer War. This fund, The Soldiers' Families Fund was the first such charitable effort for a war. The handkerchief and other related items raised more than 250,000 pounds.A white linen man's handkerchief. Magill's Endobroncheal Tube
This endobronchial tube was invented by Sir Ivan Magill. It can be identified as pre 1948, as from that time on the wire spiral was eliminated from the body of the tubes. Sir Ivan Magill is famous for his involvement in modern anaesthesia. He worked closely alongside plastic surgeon Harold Gillies in the treatment of facial injuries sustained in World War 1. This gear bag was issued to Sergent Harold Loraine Reed, who was born in 14 Aug 1889 in Portland, Victoria. Reed enlisted in the army in 1940 in Ballarat to serve in WWI, and was discharged from 8 Battalion in 1943. Gear bags such as this were standard issue to servicemen. Soldiers would fill their gear bags with essential equipment (mess tins, clothes, etc.) and carry them with them from post to post, or ship them to their destination ahead of time.Khaki coloured canvas bag that is cylindrical in shape with the owner's rank, name, and service number written on the front of the bag in white paint. Hamilton Hill (Harold Hill 1858- July 1910) was a baritone singer born in Bendigo. In 1897 he was a member of Mr Bracy's Opera Company. In 1899 he left for San Francisco and then onto London in 1910. He began recording on both cylinders and discs in London in 1903 (as such he was the first Australian to make recordings for a mass audience). He toured extensively in Britain and the US, with occasional return tours to Australia. This Brassiere belong to Mrs Zilpah Winifred Carroll (nee Parker) (1914 - 2001) and formed part of her trousseau. Zilpah, known as Win, married Harold Stewart (Bill) Carroll on Dec 21, 1938 at St MAry's Anglican Church on Glen Eira Rd, Caulfield. The Carrolls moved to Belgrave with their children in 1954 and lived there for over 40 years. Zilpah was supposed to be names "Zilpha" after a fictional heroine, however her father misspelled the name on her birth certificate. Cream lace bra with elastic and ribbon shoulder straps, two buttons to stretch and fasten at front. -

Colonel (later Brigadier) Cohen was a Member of the Legislative Council from 1 June 1929 until 1 February 1935, representing the Melbourne South province. His promptness and courage not only saved many casualties but enabled the advance to continue.The Military Medal (MM) was a military decoration awarded to personnel of the British Army and other arms of the armed forces, and to personnel of other Commonwealth countries, below commissioned rank, for bravery in battle on land. Mavis Washfold was a member of the Christian and Washfold families of Kew. A musician, she had a longstanding association with the Kew Philharmonic Society. The Society was founded by Dr. Ehrenfeld, c.1946, who was also the Orchestra's first conductor. He was succeeded by Harold Badger in 1954 following the death of the former. During the 1940s and 1950s, the Orchestra played its concerts in the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street. In 1960, the Orchestra relocated to the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road (the site of the current Kew Library).Kew Philharmonic Society certificate issued to Mavis Washfold giving her life membership in recognition of her service as secretary and member for 36 years.
