Memorabilia - Walkie Talkie- USA, Galvin Manufacturing Co, c. 1942
From the Imperial War Museums website (IWM UK): Second World War period transceiver set widely used by US, and Allied, Armed Forces in Italy, N W Europe, and the Pacific. The US Signal Corps developed the SCR-536 early in the Second World War, It was produced from 1942 onwards by the Galvin Manufacturing Co. By 1945 130,000 had been produced. The SCR-536 was an extremely popular set and was colloquially known as a "Handie-Talkie". It consisted of a five-valve, low-power, battery operated, AM (HF) transceiver that was designed for portability and ease of operation. It featured a single channel crystal control between 3.5 and 6Mc/s, and it had an R/T communication range of 1 mile over land and 3 miles over salt water. The set was switched into a receiving mode by extending the telescopic aerial, and to transmit the press-to-talk switch was depressed. The aerial was protected by a connected cover. The set was well-engineered and designed and could be held in one hand, hence "Handie-Talkie" . It was used virtually everywhere in the world, weighed only 2kg, and was proofed against fungi and moisture. The SCR-536 was also modified for use in military gliders under the designation SCR-585.Short range portable transceiver. Badge, 1918
The Rising Sun badge also known as the General Service badge or the Australian Army badge is the official insignia of the Australian Army. Worn on the brim of a slouch hat or the front of a peaked cap (selected appointments only). The badge is readily identified with the spirit of ANZAC, the legend of the Australian Soldier (or digger) and the esprit de corps of the Army itself, due to the association with the landing at Gallipoli in 1915. Today, new recruits receive the iconic badge with their initial issue of equipment which happens within their first three days of enlistment.Rising Sun Metal badge Australian Commonwealth Military Forces 1914 - 1918 War. -

Uniform - Australian Military Uniform - RAEME Corps, c1965
RAEME Corps was first established in 1942 when the Ordnance Corps and the Service Corps were combined. This uniform was donated by a RAEME member who served during the Vietnam War. The Corps began sending advisers to Vietnam in 1964 and this foreshadowed a massive build- up of RAEME personnel and equipment which peaked in 1971. The first direct RAEME support was provided in early 1965 as part of 1 Aust Logistic Support Coy (1 ALSC). Prior to 1971 the RAEME elements of 1 Australian Logistic Support Group built up to a stage where there were two field workshops. The withdrawal of all Australian forces was completed in 1972 and RAEME reverted to its peacetime role. This uniform was worn by a member of the Wodonga community who served with RAEME during the Vietnam War. RAEME Corps members are also represented at the Army Logistic Training Centre at Bandiana.Australian Military uniform - this uniform was issued during Australia's involvement in the Vietnam war. It was worn by a member of RAEME (The Royal Australian Engineers), Damien Hunt who is a resident of Wodonga. On shoulder badge: "ROYAL AUSTRALIAN ELECTRICAL / & MECHANICAL ENGINEERS"raeme, military uniforms, australian army -
Melbourne Legacy
Photograph, Back to Caulfield 1996, 1996
For many years Legacy had a "Back to Caulfield Race Day" for Legatees, widows and their families. In 1995 a Legacy 'Lone Pine' was planted. The article in the Answer says: “We were delighted with the many Legacy Widows, Legatees and friends of Legacy who participated in the Commemorative Race Day at Caulfield Sunday 25th August - marking the 75th anniversary of the RAAF. The VATC had a range of displays and activities including a breathtaking parachute demonstration by the Blue Eagles. It was touch and go for a while due to the weather conditions but once the Blue Eagles jumped they all reached their designated target in front of the winning post. Legacy even had a special race named after it: “The Legacy Widows Appeal Handicap”. Our thanks to the VATC for this courtesy. Hope we had a few winners! Vice President, Legatee Brian ‘Lucky’ Luscombe placed a wreath at the legacy ‘Lone Pine’ - a descendant of the Gallipoli ‘Lone Pine’ on behalf of the Legacy Family. The historic tree was presented to Caulfield last year as part of the events to mark the 1995 Australia Remembers year.” The photos show children playing mini golf as well as the Historical Re-enactment Society of Australia with old military equipment and wearing old military uniforms. The racecourse also had a vintage plane on display with military vehicles.Legacy retains a tie with Caulfield racecourse as it was once an army camp and staging post of young men going overseas to war and now it is the site of a lone pine. The annual gathering at Caulfield racecourse was an event that gets the Legacy family together.Colour photo x 18 of an event at Caulfield racecourse in 1996 and an article in The Answer.Printed on back -
