... Melbourne Tram Museum 8 Wallen Road Hawthorn melbourne ...The Union commenced as the Australian Tramway Employees Association in 1910. Changed its name in 1934 to the "Aust Tramway & Motor Omnibus Employees Association" so as to incorporate bus drivers of motor omnibuses. Became part of the Rail Transport Bus Union in 1993. See reference. Union members were issued with badges to indicate their membership. They were permitted to be worn on their uniforms. See item 7087 for a non-Victorian version and 915 for another example.Demonstrates a badge issued to members of the ATMOEABadge - made on a brass/gold backing with painted enamel on the front. On the central portion of the badge, had the ATMOEA logo, with the words "Vic" with red enamel backing, and on the outer edge of the badge "Aust Tramway & Motor Omnibus Employees Association" with a royal blue background. The Public Transport Union was formed in 1993 from the various Australian Public Transport Unions, see reference. It was renamed as the Rail Transport and Bus Union in 1998 to reflect the impact of privatisation. Demonstrates a badge issued to members of the PTUBadge - Public Transport Union. The badge is made on a brass backing with the words "Public Transport Union" on the outer edge of the badge with a black enamel background. In centre of badge are images of the modes of transport the union covers - trams, rail, and buses on a yellow background within a map of Australia. Copy of the agreement with the "Melbourne, Brunswick and Coburg Tramways Trust and others" with printed cover and first sheet for the Hawthorn Tramways Trust. Provides details of the agreement with the Australian Tramways Employees Association (ATEA), including wages for various classifications, leave, working conditions, uniform, union badges (to be worn on their watch chains), discipline and signatures to the agreement. Signed by J I Abfalter and T Jewell for the ATEA, D W Dureau, KJ Vindoille, and L S Cleveland for the HTT and Mr Justice Henry Higgins for the Arbitration court. Letter to all employees, dated 5/4/1950, signed by Robert Risson, Chairman, about the strike now in its 6th week, noting it is a strike against the Arbitration Court, arguments of the Tramway Employees Association, and asking employees to consider to terminate the dispute given the length of the strike. Pamphlet - printed onto an A4 sheet, titled "Sacked" about a MMTB Conductor, No. 3345, John Harrington, asking people who received this pamphlet to write to the Board to have him reinstated. Gives the details of his viewpoints and the action of the Disciplinary Panel. Dated 1-8-1979. The Union Industrial Officer Gordon Bell recommended that he resign. See note in the pdf file from donor - "Item 3 John Harrington - he printed 2000 of these pamphlets and distributed them on Kew Depot trams and Preston Depot trams. He split the union down the middle and resulted in Gordon Bell resigning and Jim Harper becoming Industrial Officer.
