THIS ASSOCIATION WAS FORMED IN 1901. IT WAS PRIMARILY CONCERNED WITH THE TRAINING AND REGISTRATION OF NURSING. THIS BECAME THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF NURSING IN 1934. IT ALSO GAVE RISE TO THE FORMATION OF THE UNION AS WE KNOW IT.THIS IS HUGELY SIGNIFICANT AND RELATES TO THE BEGINNING OF NURSING BECOMING A MORE PROFESSIONAL CAREER, EVOLVING FROM THE ORIGINAL ASSOCIATION TO THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF NURSING AND THE ANMF. ALL ALFRED HOSPITAL GRADUATE NURSES LOOKED FORWARD TO THEIR 'RVT' GRADUATION PARTY - UNIVERSALLY KNOWN AS THE RVT. THIS WAS ARRANGED BY THE GROUP JUNIOR TO THE GRADUATING GROUP. A brass stud and leather loop secure the free end of the belt tongue. A pair of brass rings are attached to the top edge of the belt for the attachment of the shoulder strap. A pair of squared “D”rings and a brass flat hook are located on the lower edge of the belt on the left side for the attachment of a sword frog. .2) Brown leather shoulder strap is attached at the front and rear of the belt by a brass stud and eyelet. Adjustment via a brass buckle. .3) Brown leather sword frog stitched on both sides with a brass “D” ring attached to the top. A brass post is placed at the centre where the supporting straps meet in a V. The camera belonged to "Jack Grinton" No 1043, 38th Batt AIF. This was Jacks second camera that he bought after buying his first camera in Cape Town on the way to England in 1916. It was made in memory of the Founder of Legacy, Legatee Stan Savige who had passed away in May 1954. This model was used in lectures in the College from the mid 20th century. An ophthalmotrope is a mechanical model constructed to demonstrate the movements of the eyes and the actions of the various muscles which produce them. The first ophthalmotrope was made by Theodore Reute in 1845 and it was he who gave it the name 'ophthalmotrope'. Frans Donders (1818-1889) became interested in eye movements on reading Reute's work, and his subsequent studies were of physiological interest and also provided the basis for principles underlying the correction of squint. Because of the complexity of the actions and counter actions of the eye muscles, ophthalmologists of the 19th century sought a practical solution with the construction of mechanical models. Reute's second model of 1857 was more sophisticated. Its eyeballs contained lenses and the optical system could be moved backwards and forwards to simulate accommodation. Later ophthalmotropes are known by Landolt, Knapp and Snellen.This ophthalmotrope is the one that was used as a teaching aid in the College from the mid 20th century.Brass framed model to illustrate actions of extra-ocular muscles.
