St Brigid's Crossley was built by the local community in 1914. In the early 2000s the Catholic Church decided to sell the Church. The community were forced to take out a large loan to keep the critical meeting place / focus point / heart of the community. The Wombat Hill Botanic Gardens 150 anniversary event organiser was Gael Shannon. The Daylesford Botanic Gardens are of historic, scientific (botanic), and aesthetic significance to the State of Victoria. The Daylesford Botanic Gardens are historically significant as a fine example of a regional botanic garden demonstrating the typical characteristics of a carriage drive, informal park layout, decorative structures and works such as the memorial tower, conservatory, rotunda, cascade and fernery, which contrasts with the open lawns planted with specimen trees, areas of intensive horticultural interest and close proximity to a township developed during the mid to late nineteenth century. The Daylesford Botanic Gardens are historically significant for the design input by noted landscape designer William Sangster, and for the survival of his 1884 plan, which is a rare example of a plan from this prolific garden designer. The Daylesford Botanic Gardens are of scientific (botanic) significance for the extensive conifer collection and cool climate plants. The Gardens contain an outstanding collection of conifers and other mature trees, many of which were donated by renowned botanist Ferdinand von Mueller. The City of Moorabbin Historical Society was formed c 1960 by a group of Moorabbin area residents who were concerned that the history of the area should be preserved. A good response to a call for items related to the historical area of Moorabbin Shire brought donations of a wide variety of artefacts that are now preserved by the current members of CMHS at Box Cottage Museum. Helen Stanley, Secretary of CMHS, began producing a Newsletter for members in April 2007 to provide current information and well researched items of historical interestHelen Stanley has produced a bi-monthly Newsletter, 2007 - 2013, for the members of the City of Moorabbin Historical Society that contains well researched interesting historical items, notification of upcoming events, current advice from Royal Australian Historical Society , Museums Australia Victoria and activities of Local Historical Societies. The Newsletter is an important record of the activities of the CMHS.4 x A4 paper printed on 1 side Issue 27 of the bi-monthly, City of Moorabbin Historical Society Newsletter produced by Society member and Secretary, Mrs Helen Stanley in June 2012. The Celebration Cup perpetual trophy was presented by Rod and David McKenna at the March Half Yearly General Meeting. Rod addressed the meeting, acknowledging that from its humble beginnings in 1875, the Royal Brighton Yacht Club has been a beacon of excellence in the yachting community. Over the past century and a half, it has grown not only in size and stature but also in the hearts and minds of countless individuals who have shared in the passion and spirit of sailing. The McKenna Family has over 232 years of total membership between them and have been involved in the Royal Brighton Yacht Club community since 1941 when Keith McKenna was first elected to the club membership and appointed Honorary Treasurer in 1950 for 10 Years. Keith’s wife Judith was elected to the club membership in 1981and acted as Treasurer for the Ladies Auxiliary for 35 + Years, both contributing to its growth and success through their unwavering support and dedication. Each of Rod and David’s grandfathers were also members while Rod and David continue to support the club in Race Management duties. The Cup is first awarded for the 150th Anniversary Regatta held on the weekend of 29, 30 March 2025, with winners of each class and Division honoured with a plaque on the Cup. The Deed of Gift accompanying this trophy allows for future celebratory events to preserve the legacy of our club for future generations.
