The old house was completely destroyed by fire circa 1960. Born 1827 in Rochdale England, Ellen was a daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Whatmough. She married Charles Partington and they migrated to Australia in 1857, living at Point Lookout, the Watsonia Toll Gates and Willis Vale. Peter Ruston came to Australia in 1850. He worked as a carter, carting flour from the mill on the Plenty River near Janefield to the Greensborough area. He was one of the first bakers in the area. He married Martha Roberts in 1858. Robert Partington died shortly after the family arrived in Australia in 1857. Parents Charles Partington and Ellen (nee Whatmough) settled in Greensborough. Grave of William Poulter (died 13/03/1888) and Mary Chapman Poulter (died 18/09/1899) [date not clear due to damage] in Plot#B8 Greensborough Cemetery. Photographs 2 and 3 shows the replacement headstone erected circa 2012.Greensborough Cemetery was created when land was given for the cemetery by Mr William Poulter, a local settler, about 1864. The cemetery holds the graves of many early settlers in the district.
