The hotel is the two storey building in the middle distance and the former general store is partly hidden by trees on the RHS. The image is looking to the north in Fawkner Street, across the Moonee Ponds Creek. The township is now part of Westmeadows.Old Broadmeadows Township was an important stopping-off point for travellers on their way to Sydney on the Old Sydney Road, (now Mickleham Road) up until 1869 when Sydney Road was finally opened. Photocopy of an article in the State Electricity Commission of Victoria Magazine, Contact, Vol 2, No. 3, Nov 1937 titled "Ballarat Tramway Extension". Single A3 sheet. The item details the opening event for the extension of the Lydiard St. tramway to Norman St or Ballarat North, or Lydiard St. North on 30/8/1937. Has a photo of the Mayor, Cr. J. Pryor cutting the ribbon. Gives names of officials who attended or spoke at the function at Electra Hall following the event. Notes the relationship between the SEC and the Council. Included in those who spoke at the event was Robert Haines, Motorman - Conductor "who has achieved fame by completing 50 years service". Record revised 3/4/2019 to add digital images with those from Andrew Cook CD. With the CD are a photocopy of notes provided by Neville at the time of production on the sources, how made, when and that a copy had gone to the TMSV c1980. Has explanations on how the cable system worked, shunting of tramcars, views of the cars operating in Bourke and other streets, the Gertrude and Nicholson St powerhouse and other features. The last sheet (i6) - copy of an article written by Lorna Hanna, niece to Neville, wrote for the March 2013 issue of the North and West Melbourne News, with particular notes on the North Melbourne route and its operation. CD is a copy of an original held by Robert, provided by Robert on 26/7/2014 in time for the Melbourne Open House Day.
