Air raid precautions distributed to householders in Victoria. The booklet is part of a suite of materials used to support Air Raid Precautions (ARP) during the Second World War. Air raid wardens managed groups of people in using air raid facilities that were constructed throughout the district. The ARP scheme was based on that developed in the United Kingdom.Primary resources showing the materials and advice developed to protect civilians on the home front. Examples of such support in the Kew Historical Society's collection includes advice for authorised community representatives, insignia and equipment.This booklet was published by the State Emergency Council for Civil Defence Victoria in April 1941. The 37-page work provides advice about what to do in an air raid, lighting restrictions, the use of road vehicles and safety for pedestrians, and shelters. The photograph is from the album of Ivy Child. The homestead appears to be that of Ted and Ethel Child. The people in the photograph have not yet been identified but are most likely family members. Ivy May Child (1910 – 1989) was the daughter of Arthur Edward (Ted) Child (1878 – 1964) and Ethel May Madden (1888 – 1970). Ted Child was the son of Matthew Francis Child (1839 – 1933) and Martha Jeeves (1857 – 1926). He was the grandson of one of the early pioneers Francis Child. Ivy grew up on the family property on Childs Road and took many photographs. Most of these are glued into her photo album. The album covered the years from c1927 – 1932. Ivy married Henry William Burgess (1906 – 1968) in 1944. The photographs remain in their original state in the album with individual copies made. Station facilities for the travelling public on the narrow gauge line at Colac Railway Station were non-existent for many years. Tickets were purchased from the broad gauge booking office and the travellers then had to walk with their luggage over the rough, potentially ankle-twisting, stone approaches, through the goods yard and wait in the open amongst the mud holes alongside the narrow gauge departure track. In 1922 a footbridge was erected over the broad gauge lines, and a passenger shelter and small goods shed were built on the departure track.B/W. The family group in this image is the Burnip family. George Burnip came to Australia in 1854. In 1856 he married Julia Grant. Sometime after this he came to the Bacchus Marsh area and purchased a farm near Coimadai and named it 'The Pines'. George Burnip was active in public affairs as a member of School Board of Advice and the Agricultural Society. One of the two men in this image is likely to be George Burnip, probably the man on the left. The man standing on the right is possibly his son, John, who would have been 22 at the time this photo was taken. The woman seated on a chair placed on the pathway is probably Mrs Julia Burnip. The woman standing with her arms crossed is possibly Mrs Julia Carroll (nee Burnip). The Warrnambool Family History Group was established in 1980. It has been running Warrnambool cemetery tours for a great number of years with the late Marie Boyce being a prominent organizer of these tours. The tours are usually held in January and on Anzac Day and over recent years have concentrated on a theme to provide information on a certain group of people (eg Mayors, war heroes). These sheets are a good example of the graves visited during the Warrnambool Cemetery tours and the information given on these people. A photo of a group of people at a reunion for Junior Legatees that joined Legacy in the 1940s. It was held at Watsonia Barracks on 29 July 2007. The event was also captured on a DVD and distributed to attendees. It was part of a collection of Legacy items from Valma Hutchinson (nee Wigg), a former junior legatee. A strip of land 2 kilometres long and half a kilometre wide had been approved as suitable for subdivision into 591 quarter acre blocks valued at 30-35 pounds each.
