The inscription in the brick was made by Lanzinger a German internee who escaped several times from Camp 1, recaptured and placed in Camp 4 gaol. The brick was recovered by the Stanhope Museum, where it is now on display. The curator of the Museum contacted Tatura Museum for information about Lanzinger, and was advised that Lanzinger's daughter ( Ann Flegel) had visited Tatura Museum and Camp 1, from Canada. A photo of the brick was forwarded from Stanhope to Flegels, who in turn forwarded it to Josef Friedrich whom she had made contact with through the Tatura Museum. This Jones sewing machine was one of the few sewing machines that accompanied the Germans who were deported from Palestine in 1941 to Australia where they were interned at Tatura. The machine was owned by Nelly Wied (nee Glenk). See notes in Item receipt form.Lid is plywood constructed with domed top. Brown handle on top and a clip each end to fasten to machine base. Machine is on a wooden base with clips on each end to fasten to lid. Right hand side of machine has a rectangular hole with wooden lid and brown wooden knob. To keep accessories in. Alfred Landauer was Born in Vienna 13/06/1910. He was a commerical artist who arrived in Australia on board the "Dunera".Pen & Ink and watercolor of three camp huts. Else Oertel and her daughter Else-Lore were interned in Camp 3A from 1940. Her husband was not interned as he was on a business trip to Germany when war broke out. Olive green linen cover with embossing on edge and spine. Gold printing on spine. 256 pages. The front of the original dust cover has been attached to the inside of the book.
