The Gisborne Football Club organised a ball, which was held in the local Community Chambers on 26th May 1937. This work consists of three “piles of rock-like forms” set in vertical formations. The work is made from clay and cement. The clay used in these pieces reflects the history of the site by referring to the earth and to the brick manufacturing that took place in the area. The formations of the rocks represent the strength of the community and the building blocks of our multicultural heritage.

The League was very active and the social events notoriously noisy. The bell was presented in 1931 with a note, 'hoping it will be useful and also to show warm appreciation of our very pleasant Reunions from a few of the Trainees of the Eighties and Nineties'. The thought was to help bring the gatherings to order long enough to make announcements. This photograph contains an array of different musical instruments being used by a band in a performance. The instruments visible in the photo include the Cymbals, Double bass, Trumpets, Trumbones, Tuba and Clarinets. Given the assortment of instruments present it is clear that this ensemble is an orchestral band. All of these instruments require the musician to be sitting while performing as depicted in the photograph. This photo was taken in 1997 and highlights the diversity of the band members, which includes both young and old men and women all working together to deliver a performance. The photograph is of a music ensemble from the Greek island of Ithaca, taken sometime between 1938 - 1941. Mandolin and guitar music and cantades singing was popular with the people of Ithaca and across the Ionian Islands. The preference for this style of music and song was a result of the influence of the Venetian rule of the Ionian islands for almost 300 years. The uniforms of the young men photographed suggest they may have been members of the National Youth Organization established in Greece during the years of the Metaxas dictatorship (1936–1941) with the stated goals of helping the youth in the productive spending of their free time and cultivating their national values and cooperative spirit. Membership was made compulsory, for all young people, despite the views of families. A range of coercive tactics were used for those who were reluctant to join. The youth movement disintegrated after the regime’s ending in April 1941. Many of its members joined the Greek resistance movement. Despite the regime being a right wing dictatorship, Metaxas refusal to submit to imperialist and fascist Italy resulted in Greece entering WWII on the side of allies. Many Ithacans who settled in Australia brought with them their instruments and their love of cantades and the Ionian style of music. At family gatherings and celebrations they would play their mandolins and guitars and sing their beloved cantades.A black and white photograph in postcard format of sixteen young men, members of a mandolin and guitar orchestra. The photo is taken at the North Balwyn home of Jim and Leah Kandiliotis who were hosting an IPS barbeque luncheon. The cooks on the right are Chris Lourantos (foreground) and Spero Defteros both wearing white aprons, whilst Bill Benias on the left is offering advice.Informal social gatherings with family and friends where food is also served is a very popular form of relaxation in the Ithacan community. The first official dance was held on April 23 1918, two years after the establishment of the Ithacan Philanthropic Society. The celebration depicted may have been a New Years Eve function. New Year's Eve celebrations were a very popular event through to the 1990s. Dances were popular social events for the Ithacan community and an opportunity for Ithacans to socialise and enjoy Greek music and dancing. A mounted sepia photograph of a crowd of people gathered for a celebration in a dance hall which has balloons hanging from the decorative ceiling.

The photograph of the six men, who are drinking a toast, was taken at the 45th Annual Ithacan Ball which took place at the Royal Exhibition Building in 1959. The seven men were at an Ithacan social function at a venue in Franklin Street, Melbourne. Pictured from left: Peter Paxinos, Diogenis Cominos , Peter Black (Mavrokefalos), Jim Kandiliotis , Athansi Papanikolaos, and Peter (Bouli) Dellaportas.The men pictured all emigrated to Melbourne from Ithaca at various decades dating from the 1930s through to the 1950s. The man in the photograph is Panayotis Raftopoulos (Politsimanos). He opened, the Leura Café and fish shop in the Victorian town of Camperdown in 1933 with Niko Karadis. Some Ithacans who settled in Australia were fishmongers as they had grown up with a knowledge of fish and fishing in their country of birth. While the majority of early Ithacans had businesses in the inner Melbourne area, a number ventured into regional Victoria.
