A family bible belonging to the Dakin family of Kew. Arthur Dakin who is listed in the front pages was a member of the Ross Sea Rescue Expedition. A collection of artefacts relating to Dakin is held in the Tasmanian Museum. The original structure was built as a house for the resident police sergeant and his family. Offices and a cell block were located at the rear of this building. The Queen Anne revival style employed by the Department of Public Works architects, favoured the use of red brick highlighted by stucco. The painted white stucco is not the original colour.
