Indicated or provided a location to tram drivers and passengers of a tram stop that trams had to be hailed or signaled to stop or to alight. Demonstrates the form of tram stop that the MMTB used in Melbourne that trams had to be signaled to stop at. An early style before the use of enameled signs. Shows B class tram number 90, east bound in Whitehorse Road, at the intersection with Burke Road. Photo has a caption "Whitehorse Road Balwyn c1920s". Tram has the PMTT style destination board. There are a number of people standing on the right hand side of the tram. Note the shelter on the left hand side. This shelter remains in same position (2022). Two advertising panels on the front of the tram advertise "Jex Soap Pads" and the musical "Hair" at the Metro Theatre Bourke St. Two Fords are alongside the tramcar. The original source of photograph unknown. The Musical "Hair" was presented in Melbourne during 1971. Photograph - Black and White V class 215 at Preston Workshops 1925
Tram originally built for The North Melbourne Electric Tramways and Lighting Co. (NMETL) in 1906 as a straight sill open cross bench tram. Photograph is of the tram body on an un-motored truck or wheel set and has been posed for an official MMTB photograph in 1925, soon after the workshops were completed. It shows the destination of "M River" for Maribyrnong River.Shows the only type of fully open cross bench tram operated by the MMTB. This style was popular as a summer tram in North America. Originally built by Brill (USA) in 1906 and assembled by Duncan and Fraser for the NMETL as Tram No. 14. The Victorian Railways continued to operate a bus service along the former Black Rock - Sandringham line, long after the tram line closed.
