Gertrude Perry was born in California Gully in 1917. Her singing skills were recognized at an early age. She later sang with local choirs and sang on radio. She was involved with the Bendigo Operatic Society for many years. Gertrude began her working life in sales. After studying book keeping she worked at the Bendigo Ordnance Factory during WW2 and then worked for local solicitors and accountants. Gertrude was involved with many community and sporting organizations.V.S.C.C. Inc. It gives some of his childhood recollections of Port Melbourne Hotels These include the Shamrock which he understood that it was "... a weatherboard Building - very Badly Conducted and when it was burned down it was not rebuilt... Archibald Ernest SWANNIE was awarded two Royal Humane Society bronze medals (case numbers 1817 and 1880) for rescuing two people from drowning on separate occasions, at Railway Pier, Port Melbourne and at Queensbridge (city). Medal awarded to Archibald Ernest Swannie 13.02.1899 . Bar awarded 25.12.1899. The RHS awards a bronze medal for the first award and then adds a bronze bar to that medal as the second award. The first saving occurred on 13 February 1899 and the award ceremony occurred on 19 April 1899.
