Schuss was advertised as Victoria’s Official Ski Journal It was issued monthly from 1935 to 1961 except during the war when summer issues covered two months. This continued after the war, but it averaged 10 issues annually over its 25 year life. Schuss was published by the Ski Club of Victoria which had a membership of 38 Ski Clubs and demanded to be recognised as the prime authority on skiing in the state. The other 30 ski clubs with 85% of the members disagreed and the politics of skiing became heated. These clubs formed the Federation of Victorian Ski Clubs with their own journal, Ski Horizon. With the establishment of the Victorian Ski Association, Ski-Horizon published its last issue in Nov - Dec. 1955 and the role of the official journal was fully taken over by “Schuss”. This item is significant because it contains stories, images and information documenting the development of the ski industry in Victoria.The journal features stories and events chronicling developments in Victoria and internationally. Items related to the Falls Creek Area in this issue include:- Cover - Australia's First Olympic Ski Team Departs - features a photo from "The Age" Derrick Stogdale, President of the Ski Club of Victoria, conveys the good wishes of Victorian skiers to Olympic team members, Bruce Haslingdon, Cedric Sloane and Bill Day. The "Lorna, Bob and Elsie" in the inscription are probably Elsie McCorkell, her son Robert Hayward, and her daughter Lorna McCorkell.A very small photograph which has been made into a souvenir/postcard. The photograph is a view of Sussex Street, Linton, looking south-west. On the right of the photo are Ching's store, R. N. Sandow confectionery shop, a house next to it, and the first Bank of NSW building. Two houses are further down the road past Gillespie Street. On the left of the photo are the Edinburgh Bakery and a store with a verandah on the corner of Gillespie Street. The photograph is glued to a beige-coloured card which has a decorative edge cut into it. A printed border surrounds the photograph, and the words "A View at Linton" are printed underneath it. The card appears to have had the right-hand edge trimmed with scissors. Because of this, an inscription on the back of the card has been partially cut away. Button fly (6 buttons) Pockets are white cotton, waistband lining is blue and white striped cotton. Small piece of leather at bottom of trousers at back. Two side pockets. One back pocket on right. This uniform was issued to “Gerald John Clancy" VX105938. Enlisted 23.7.1942. Discharged 15 April 1946, Rank Cpl in 29/46 Aust. Inf. Bn.1. Jacket. black wool. Four pockets held shut with silver buttons. Front held shut with four silver buttons. Each collar has a silver number badge - 1779. Each arm has a cloth badge marked "Corps of Commissionaires". Each arm also has a 75mm round badge with a 7 pointed star. It is surmounted with a crown. Inside the 'star' is a blue ring with the words "Service - Loyalty - Integrity". Inside the blue ring is a red dot. On that dot are symbols - Eagle, Anchor and a Rifle. Ob the left forearm is a 25 mm cloth badge with a silver letter "R". 2. Belt, wool, black. Silver metal buckle. 3. Trousers, woollen, black. 4. Tie, woollen, black. Red liner, fixed loop for neck. 5. Belt - black leather with silver buckle.
