Copy of printed or photocopied letter sent to all Public Transport Corporation (V/Line - railway and The Met - Tramways and bus) dated 25/6/1992 signed by the Chief Executive Office, Ian F.X. Stoney. Letter concerns the "alleged" drinking of tramway staff and illegal stoppage of trams, as published in the Sunday Age. Investigations determined the photo was the Coburg Tram terminus and the crew member was drinking a "Bundaberg Ginger Beer" stubbie. Bell portion of a tramcar conductor's bell. Approximately. 100mm diameter, about 35mm deep with a raised or bossed hole at the top 4.5mm at the top. Bell possibly cast or pressed brass, appears to have been damaged or repaired due to excess brass in portion of the bell and on the underside where signs of brass welding are apparent. If from a horse tram, would have most likely been made by Duncan and Fraser of Adelaide SA. Significant in being a sheet regarding tramcar braking systems and how considered at the time - 1950. No mention of sand in braking technique.Was contained within Reg Item 3519 in which located in the filing cabinet 8/2006. Small typed carbon copy instruction or "Notice to All Traffic Staff" titled "Braking", discussing the names of emergency brake. Notes air braked trams have on emergency brake only - the air brake. Stopping trams electrically is not regarded as brake equipment, and should not be used unless air brake is defective. Dated 24/11/1950. From the direction of the trolley pole it is preparing to head back into the city, however the destination board is reading View Point.. One of the crew can be seen standing near a fence in the background, with a point bar in his hand. Several homes and motor cars can be seen. The photographer says this was taken on the last day of trams in Lydiard Street in 1971.
