Leisure object - Model tram and presentation case, Cooee Concepts Pty Ltd, Model of Melbourne tram W5 (actually a SW5) No. 812, 2008
Model of Melbourne tram W5 (actually a SW5) No. 812, electric model, made by Cooee Concepts Pty Ltd in China. Model packaged in a wooden packing case with a red felt base, contained within a card board outer case. The card board cover or case has a printed sheet giving details of the model and the history of the W5 Class tramcar. The wooden case has a brass plate detailing the contents. Scale 00 or 1:76. Model made from plastic and metal, with operable lights and motors with operable trolley poles, swivelling bogies, destination of St Kilda, showing route 16. Headlights function in the direction of travel. Package has manufacturing date of 2008 printed on it. Contains a plastic cover strip, plastic holder for the tram, plastic lift out strip, a printed Certificate of Authenticity, No. 335 of 700 and a folded sheet giving instructions for the use of the tram on a model tramway - up to 15V DC.trams, tramways, models, w5 class, the met, cooee models, tram 812 -

Would have been used in the drawing office for checking clearances on buildings, trackwork, junctions. Cut with holes in the centre to enable this to be done. There are a number of horse-drawn carts, one motor vehicle and many pedestrians crossing the streets. In the view are the GPO, a building advertising Kodak Australasia at the Block, The Windsor magazine, W E Thomas Dentist, and Dunklings. By the Dunklings store is a double decker bus with the destination of Spring St, advertising Zebra stove polish. Photograph of cable cars in Elizabeth St at the corner with Collins St. Has the Elizabeth St station in the view, along with Craigs and the Royal Bank. Rod Atkins advised 24/08/2020: "Dates from around 1914. taken 11.53 am in high summer. The Flinders Street Railway station looks complete but we still have all the telephone cables on poles in both Elizabeth and Collins Streets. I don't know the year they all went underground. We have two standard "Fitzroy" trams in Collins Street and one West Melbourne tram with standard eight-window trailer - no bogie trailers in the photo. Some of the West Melbourne trailers were still six window cars in the 1920's. The major building in the photo is the "Royal Bank" on the South East Cnr. of Collins and Elizabeth Street. The postcard photograph shows PMTT No. 23 a Maximum Traction bogie, straight sill combination with drop end at the Malvern Burke Road terminus, c1916. See page 60 of Destination City 5th edition for details of the tram. Purchased by the Prahran and Malvern Tramways Trust, sold to the Hawthorn Tramways Trust during 1916, in 1920 absorbed by the MMTB and classed "O". They were sold to Adelaide in 1927. There is a large "1" in the front window, indicating the route number and the destination of Burke Road.
