Set of 14 black and white photographs of the use of former sleeper transport car, W2 485 - see page 80 of Destination City 5th Edition for more details of the tram. Tram body being used to train emergency staff how to recover a tramcar that had been tipped over onto its side. DC5, notes it was stored at Preston workshops and later "used an instruction car to train emergency crews in the righting of the overturned trams. It was overturned several times in this role." Note: - would have been at the time, probably the only way to do this, as mobile cranes were only just starting to be developed. Truck is an AEC built Matador truck. Model of Melbourne tram W5 (actually a SW5) No. 812, electric model, made by Cooee Concepts Pty Ltd in China. Model packaged in a wooden packing case with a red felt base, contained within a card board outer case. The card board cover or case has a printed sheet giving details of the model and the history of the W5 Class tramcar. The wooden case has a brass plate detailing the contents. Scale 00 or 1:76. The Flinders Street Railway station looks complete but we still have all the telephone cables on poles in both Elizabeth and Collins Streets. I don't know the year they all went underground. We have two standard "Fitzroy" trams in Collins Street and one West Melbourne tram with standard eight-window trailer - no bogie trailers in the photo. Some of the West Melbourne trailers were still six window cars in the 1920's. The major building in the photo is the "Royal Bank" on the South East Cnr. of Collins and Elizabeth Street.
