You asked me to get a photo of the verandah side. Well, there is a verandah on both sides and one end as you can see. This is a photo of the front. The door has been nailed up for 20 years. Photo sent to Mary Jack, Pittsburgh USA by Charles Schwerkolt. Accompanying text sent by Charles - 'This is another photo of front side (facing Mitcham township) You see there is a lot of dried grass lying about which is a serious fire risk to the new houses which have been built. The verandah posts on the corner have rotted away and let the verandah down a foot. The roof on the kitchen is in a bad way. You will notice the chimney has a lean of about a foot. Photo sent to Mary Jack, Pittsburgh USA, by Charles Schwerkolt. Accompanying text by Charles - 'This is the end facing Ernie's old house which was burnt down last year. There is also the remains of the old well. The old smoke house used to be down there also. All these things have disappeared a long time ago. The house is the only thing that remains of the Schwerkolt property. The wine cellars and other buildings fell down years ago after the bush fires burnt the wooden supports. You will notice the toilet has about 3 boards off the top. The old water tank is hiding the back.Black and white photo of Schwerkolt Cottage showing Old Well, Toilet (with boards missing) and Old Water Tank. Photo sent to Mary Jack, Pittsburgh USA. Accompanying text sent by Charles - 'This is the side facing the creek. It is probably the side you asked me to take a photo of. Notice the bathroom behind the towel on the washing line. This was erected to give the tenant privacy. It cost over 100 pounds. The place was condemned a month or so later. You will notice there is nothing growing here. This part was always used for growing vegetables, there is not one there now. If I get him out the place will have to be demolished. We are not allowed to let it to another person to live in.Black and white photo of Schwerkolt Cottage. Recently built detached Bathroom , visible to left of photo. Photo sent to Mary Jack, Pittsburgh USA by Charles Schwerkolt. Accompanying text sent by Charles - 'This is the end facing Deep Creek Road. You will notice the wood boards are all curved. The floor is all eaten away with white ants and is all levels and the weatherboards have fallen at the ends. The roof is very bad also the gable of the stone looks not so good. The wooden kitchen is about 6 inches away from the stone house all the way around. You will notice the roof of the stone house is all colours with rust and paint. You will notice there are no spouts to take the water away. I took another photo but the light got into the lens of my camera so they would not print a photo from it.Black and white photo of Schwerkolt Cottage. The condition of the Kitchen roof is visible.
