A postcard with a black and white image of small boats being towed on a rope through water. Each boat is carrying several soldiers, and other ships and boats can be seen in the background. From the title it is a landing party going ashore near Gaba Tepe, on the Gallipoli peninsula. The back of the post card is blank so it was kept more as a souvenir than sent as a letter. There are other similar postcards in the collection.Images of Gallipoli were captured on postcards as mementoes. Postcards were a very common form of communication in the first World War. Small creamy white empty envelope with no writing on it. On the back flap it has crest of the Bendigo Regiment. It has a shield with a shovel and pick in the top right corner, a bunch of grapes? Below it and in the top left it is unclear what it is and the bottom left is an animal? Underneath is 'Honorem custodite'. On the left of the shield is a horse and on the right is a lion. Both animals are standing on their hind feet with their front feet resting on the shield. Printed in blue. The blue one with the yellow fringe is for Ballroom Dancing Examination Gold (Proficiency) Award. Written on one end is: Peter Ellis Old Time 2.4.78. The purple one with the white fringe is Ballroom Dancing Examination Silver (Proficiency) Award. It has the Motto: Semper Aspiro on the emblem. This item is of significance because it commemorates the unveiling of a life size bronze statue of Australian middleweight boxing champion Les Darcy at Maitland, NSW. This limited edition badge was given as a memento to the sponsor's of the monument and special guests who attended the unveiling. It has historic relevance because Les Darcy was born at Stradbroke near Maitland in 1895. He died in America in 1917 age 22 and is buried in the West Maitland cemetary where hundreds of tourists make visits every year. His family home in Maitland still stands and is also a tourist attraction although privately owned. The badge depicts an image of Les Darcy in his famous boxing pose.The figure of Darcy is surrounded by a floral motif depicting the Australian coat of arms at the top and the inscription Les Darcy Memorial encircling his image.
