... that was in regular service between Australia and New Zealand from 1908... that was in regular service between Australia and New Zealand from 1908 ...Dr Bernie Dunn spotted a model of the merchant ship 'Ulimaroa' at Pollywoodside Museum after which he commissioned Ib Odfeldt, a Danish prize winning marine artist, to depict the vessel at sea.The painting was later gifted to ANZCA in 2006. John Traill, co-owner of Huddart Parker Ltd, named the ship in 1907 after his family home 'Ulimaroa' the building which was later purchased by the newly established ANZCA. The S S Ulimaroa was one of the popular ships in the Huddart Parker fleet that was in regular service between Australia and New Zealand from 1908 to 1934. This service was interrupted by WWI when it was commissioned by the NZ Government to carry troops. During the depression it was de-commissioned where it lay in Sydney Harbor until 1934 when it sailed under its own steam to Japan to be converted into scrap metal. He enlisted at the outbreak of war and served with the 9th Division Cavalry Regiment in North Africa. During the attack on Trig 22 on 17 July 1942 Captain Fyffe commanding a composite squadron manoeuvred his tanks to knock out machine guns and anti-tank guns enabling 2/32 Battalion to capture the objective. Captain Fyffe was awarded the Military Cross for his leadership and courage in the action. Pulled ...These badges were almost certainly issued to Leslie Samuel Woods of Albury who enlisted 10 May 1915 having completed first year medicine at Melbourne University. He served a year at the Convalescent Hospital, Harefield UK, before being ordered home to complete his medical studies. He would have completed his studies near the end on 1918 and attempted to re-enlist but had not entered training before the Armistice. Doctor Leslie Woods was a General Practitioner in Albury till his death. He is buried in Albury Waugh Road Cemetery.Well provenanced object illustrating the WWI experience of a young Albury man.Two lapel badges pinned to a piece of paper with a handwritten notation.
