Donald John BURNET No 2130 enlisted in the AIF in 4th reinforcements 60th Batt on 19.5.1916 age 18 years. Embark for England 1.8.1916, embark for France 11.11.1916. He is then returned to England with under age personnel for some reason on 27.12.1916 and proceeds to get himself in trouble. Finally embarks for France on 19.4.1917 and in trouble 2 days later but rejoins his unit on 25.4.1917, hospital 14.6.1917 with a Sprained right Ankle, rejoin unit 21.6.1917, hospital 7.8.1917 with Diptheria and then gets Tonsilitis, rejoin unit 20.9.1917 and is KIA 5 days later on 25.9.1917. It is not sure which of the two Dowseys from Bendigo it is. The two are; David DOWSEY No 2133 enlisted in the AIF in 6th reinforcements 14th Batt on 21.5.1915 age 34 years 11 months. Embarked for Egypt 17.6.1915, embark for Gallipoli 1.8.1915, hospital with sore feet 11.10.1915, rejoin unit 21.10.1915, WIA 26.11.1915 GSW to Arm, during recovery gets himself into a bit of trouble, hospital 8.3.1916 with Influenza, rejoin unit 10.3.1916, hospital again two days later with Influenza and then classed Rhuematism, returns to Australia 11.5.1916 classed Chronic Rhuematism. Edward DOWSEY No 5526 enlisted in the AIF in October 1916 Tunnelling Coy reinforcements on 13.3.1916 age 29 years 1 month. Embark for England 25.10.1916, embark for France 4.6.1917 and attached to the 1st Tunnelling Coy, WIA 15.2.1918 GSW to Left shoulder, returns to Australia for discharge 11.12.1918 and discharged on 1.3.1919.Brown, wooden frame with white inner edge, glass front with brown cardboard backing. He was NR 4886 Suffolk Regiment DOB c1878. POB White Chapel, London. Served 1899-1902 Cape Colony, Colesberg, Transvaal - with the Mounted Infantry. WW1 - DOE 11 Dec 15, Middlesex Regiment 5 Bm. (A Reserve Bn). Discharged from Middlesex 19 Apr 1916. M.U. Number 1710 Pte. The British I.W.M. also shows he served in the Royal Field Artillery in WW1. That info is not available. This bag forms part of the Light Horseman’s KitThis is a leather container. The top section is double layered with two oval shaped slots. The bag section has a leather flap with 2 straps. Uniform - LEGGINGS, LIGHT HORSE
leggings or gaitors were part of the uniform issued to soldiers to help protect their legs and uniform. The idea is to wrap around lower legs. It is believed the original owner was called "Pitt".Dark brown leather leggings with 2 leather straps to tighten around legs. Two straps - first one wrapping around leg 3 times to tighten. William John ARCHER (Bill) No 321 enlisted in B Coy 21st Batt AIF on 18.1.15. Embarked for Eygpt 8.5.15. Hospital 9.9.15 with Influenza. Hospital 24.11.15 with Gastric Enteritis. Hospital 2.1.16 with Otitis Media. Transfers to the 57th Batt and embarks for France. Hospital with Trench Fever 4.10.16. Promoted to Cpl 28.4.17. Hospital 19.3.18 with Scabies. WIA 18.4.18 GSW's to chest and leg severe. Discharged from the AIF medically unfit 9.1.19. Alexander William ARCHER No 40637 enlisted in the RAAF on 16.5.41 age 18 years 8 months. He wanted to be a Mess Steward and was taken in as he had worked in similar work line. He then has 5 postings before embarking for Egypt on 2.4.1942 and was posted to No 3 SQD RAAF on 20.5.1942. Re mustered as a Motor Cyclist he became a Dispatch Rider on 8.9.1942 between the RAAF and the Army. Alex served in the Middle East and Italy with 3 SQD. He embarked from Egypt diagnosed with Kyphosis and Scoliosis on 5.2.1944. In Australia he was re mustered as Office Orderly on 6.7.1944 and then discharged from the RAAF on 2.10.1944 Medically Unfit. Wooden base with brass shells either end resembling Officers caps,one being WWI, the other WWII, both inscribed. Centre plaque inscribed Alex Archer and Bill Archer, father and son. First approved for wearing in 1916. A stripe was worn for each time wounded enough to take the person out of the front line. Worn vertically on the left forearm. The design for the Memorial plaque was chosen from 800 entries in 1918. Mr E.C.Preston of Liverpool was the winner. The prize was 200 pounds. The plaque was to be, As a solace for bereavement and as a memento. The first plaques arrived in Australia during 1922. They were to become commonly known as the Death penny or the Dead mans penny. Francis Charles Wicks, No 2246 enlisted in 14th Reinforcements 28th Batt AIF on 24.7.15 age 33 years 10 months. Embarked for Eygpt 1.10.15, embarked for France 16.3.16, was reported Missing in Action on 29.7.1916 and was then reported Killed in Action the same day in France, confirmed by Court of Inquiry 4.1.17. Refer 2059, his brother James Henry Wicks Regt No 4626.Circular cast bronze plaque with raised relief of Britannia and a lion with two small seals. Around the outside in raised relief is the wording typical to all plaques. The card was sent by James Henry Wicks to his sister, unknown. After serving in the 7th Batt, J H Wicks transfered to the 5th Machine Gun Batt AIF in France. He returned home in 1919Greeting card.The outer card is a parchment type paper fawn in colour. The front cover has a yellow ribbon band rectangular in shape glued to the card. A rectangular card is glued over this. The card contains flowers, an image of a church or mosque in a half circle. Above this to the right is wording. The card opens to a centre piece which is paper, a light blue in colour.Front cover in centre card. Believing ye Rejoice, 1.Peter.1.8. On the card itself, Greetings from a Soldier boy in Eygpt 1916.
