Report - six sheets, were paper clipped together, three foolscap (marked 4370A) and two quarto sheets (marked 4370C) titled "Lives of North Melbourne City Section ropes during 1917-18", regarding a claim made through Dalgety and Company (3/1/19 and 6/1/1919) for damage on a section of rope that was on a ship that was sunk by enemy action. Has a three page report on the cable life and insurance claim made by the Tramway Board in 1918, looking at the life of the cable compared to previous ropes. Quite a detailed study made and costs incurred. Provides a strategy for the future of Melbourne's Public Transport from the Transport Unions and Victorian Trades Hall Council (VHTC) viewpoint. Has an index, list of people involved in the study, provides viewpoints on extensions to the rail and tram networks, revenues, funding and employment conditions. The Compressed Gas plant was part of the equipment installed to provide gas for the buses during the early stage of the Second World War. This book belonged to John William Crawley, Junior who had acquired it in 1910 as a member of the Victorian Institute of Surveyors. John Crawley was an engineer, architect and surveyor in private practice in Warrnambool and also the official engineer of the Shire of Warrnambool from 1896 to 1935. His father, brother and son were also engineers and worked in that capacity for the Shire of Warrnambool or as the Shire Secretary, with the Crawley family members recording a total of 132 years of service to the Shire of Warrnambool which existed from 1863 to 1994. This book is retained as it belonged to John Crawley, the engineer for the Shire of Warrnambool for forty years. This is a hard cover book with a dark brown cover with gold printing on the front cover and spine. The cover is now stained. The book contains an introduction, twenty papers and reports from 1905 to 1910. There are many black and white photographs and fold-out maps and plans.
