Document. Mining Lease Receipt. Receipt for a Mining Lease dated 19 April 1905 for a Mr William Lascelles of Castlemaine. The receipt is marked Book 170 No. 181. The cost for the Mining Lease was Five pounds. Receipt is printed in black ink and is signed by ? Cook. Eaglehawk is stamped in purple ink at bottom of receipt. Royal seal at top of document read V. Document. Cannons at Eaglehawk. Typed document by the Bendigo Branch of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria on the cannons at Eaglehawk. It reads - The two cannons were originally ship cannons, smooth bore type and later modified by the insertion of a rifled tube. This suggests that they were used as fort land guns in gun emplacements, and it is possible that these were mounted around Port Phillip Bay during the Russian scare at the turn of the century. The large ring at the rear is for lashing down to control recoil, and the swivel mounts enable elevation. These were placed in position at Eaglehawk by ox team, and at a later stage a steam traction engine overturned attempting to move one. Document. Gold Sale notes for Nicholas Bolle. Papers pinned together covering the years 1868 - 1887 being statement of gold melted and assayed for Nicholas Bolle from the Eaglehawk branch of the Bank of Victoria. A few of the papers are from the Bank of New South Wales - Eaglehawk Branch, Bank of Australasia, Bank of Australasia Gold Office. The earliest statement dated 3 Jul 1868 is for Messrs Harrison & Bashton. Other early ones are for Derbyshire Reef. The Bank of Victoria cards mention R. H. Andrews, Agent on the back. Document. Handwritten mining lease report by John B Goulden, dated 1903, for mining lease No. 6828 situated at Wilsons Hill, Marong. It mentions details on the past workings of this reef approx. 1872 - 1876 and mentions that this lease would be quite profitable to whatever company took it on.
