Items relate to Jack Grinton No 1043, 38th Batt AIF. The postcards document Grinton's visits to various UK, French and European sites of interest. The ephemera in the last section include booklets, sketches, souvenirs, programmes, paper money, photo wallets, letters, pay slips and Grinton's discharge certificate. Part of the Grinton Collection which included hundreds of negatives and developed photos taken by Jack Grinton during WW1. Refer Cat No 1280 for service details. See also 1291.2P and 4528.2P. Uniform - JACKET AND SLOUCH HAT - WW1, Dalter Lucas & Sons (1910) Ltd, 1918
Slouch hat and Uniform jacket belonging to Edwin James JONES No 3511 AIF. Refer 1367.5 for his service history. The hat was manufactured in 1918 by Dalter Lucas & Sons Bury, UK. It appears to be of a similar style to those issued to Gurkha troops due to the thickness of the felt, the three rows of stitching around the brim and the use of a press stud to pin up the left hand side of the brim..1) Coat, Battle Dress, Kahki, includes 2 x “Australia” shoulder badges, 2 x “Rising Sun” epaulette badges, 2 x “yellow over purple” colour patches, 3 x “service chevrons”, 1 x “Empire Wounded stripe”, 1 x “Lewis Gun” cloth badge, all metal buttons intact as well as waist belt. .2) Hat, Slouch, kahki fur felt, cotton pugaree, leather head band, Rising sun badge, no chin strap..2) Pressed into the hat band appears to be; “Dalter Lucas & sons (1910) Ltd, BURY 1918”uniforms, military clothing, costume accessories - male -

Headwear - HELMET - WW1 GERMAN, c. 1915
The helmet was captured by William J Hanna, Royal Irish Fusiliers. Hanna was wounded during the 1916 Battle of the Somme.World War One German Army steel helmet. The outer surface is painted. Two lugs/ventilation holes are visible on each side. Rivets securing the missing headband are also visible. The front of the helmet has an extended visor whilst the back and sides also project to cover the nape of the neck and ears. .1) H.N.Cummin. Harold Nesbit Cummin had prior Military service (unclear) to joining the AIF. No 1239 he enlisted on 17.8.1915 in the 6th reinforcements to the 11th Light Horse Regt age 20 years. Embark for Egypt 27.10.1915, hospital 3.1.1916 with Bronvhitis, rejoin unit 15.1.1916, over some 7 months from 4.4.1916 he transfers 4 times until 2.11.1916 and listed as 4th Australian Camel Regt, by 16.2.1917 he is classed as being with 11th Coy 3rd Anzac Batt 1st Camel Brigade, WIA 1.12.1917 GSW’s, DOW’s at 2nd L.H.Brigade Field Ambulance 1.12.1917 in Jaffa. Refer 2535P re his brother Alexander Norman. The photo obviously refers to his previous service as the photo is dated “Oct 1914”. On the right, Harold James Fraser. He had 5 years pre war service in the Cadets and Citizens Forces. Enlisted on 27.10.1916 No 2802 6th reinforcements 38th Batt age 22 years. He again enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corp on 28.3.1942 as No V352711, promoted to Lieutenant 10.12.1942, discharged from the Corp on 31.10.1945.
