Headwear - HELMET - WW1 GERMAN, c. 1915

Historical information

The helmet was captured by William J Hanna, Royal Irish Fusiliers. Hanna was wounded during the 1916 Battle of the Somme.

Physical description

World War One German Army steel helmet. The outer surface is painted. Two lugs/ventilation holes are visible on each side. Rivets securing the missing headband are also visible. The front of the helmet has an extended visor whilst the back and sides also project to cover the nape of the neck and ears. Inside on each side are attachment points for a chin strap.
