Bread machines were made for quite a long time from the 1890's on. They came in different heights and capacities. The advertisements at the time stated that making bread with their machine was superior to hand kneading, This item is good example of a domestic appliance used when most foods were home-made. Access to commercial bread was limited in rural areas and housewives became skilled at bread-making.Metal bucket with lid. Lid has hole in centre through which a handle for turning the dough hook comes. Grey rusty coloured.Put in all liquids first, then flour, turn 3 minutes, raise in pail. Used in agriculture in the Orbost district, to cut hay or silage, most likely on the Mundy farm. The original Mundy family moved to a land "selection" at Betebolong in the early 1880's from Buchan. These tea warmers were used to keep the teapot warm when it was filled with tea, hence the name. This one was owned and used by Mrs M Larer, New Gisborne "Elderslie" in the 1920's.A silver plated round single burner tea warmer with a removable top grid with five support arms. It has a retractable metal 'wick' operated by turning a small round flat knob attached to the side. This knob is joined to the 'wick' with a long silver rod on the outside of the mechanism so the operator does not burn their fingers. The reservoir has two curved small handles on the side and an ornate filigree style pattern at the top rim. These blank books, a Ledger and two Cash Books were used by the United Berry Growers Association of Victoria to record the account details for Cash and Contra entries. Contra entries represent the deposits or withdrawals of cash from bank or vice versa. Contra indicates transactions that affect both cash and bank.A large green cloth paper wavy patterned covered Norman Bros., Leger Book with burgundy tape on the spine. The end papers are blue marbled paper and the edges of the pages are marble coloured.This blank book was used by the United Berry Growers Association of Victoria as written on the front cover in copperplate writing. Inside the book on page A are three brief entries indicating which pages to see detailed accounts. Throughout the rest of the book various expenditures are listed, for example on pp. 71 and 72 is a list of General Expenses A/c. The Leger was used as a Statement of Accounts including Printing and Stationery and for other statements too. There are also two Cash Books, one with green wavy patterned covers and one with black paper hardcovers. Both have CASH BOOK stickers on the front with the name United Berry Growers Association of Victoria on one and the other has the initials U.B.G.A written in copperplate black ink. Because of the initials JV on the bottom part this portable desk possibly belonged to James Volum (1803-1884) The volum family originally from Peterhead, Scotland, had a long seafaring history. Several members of the family were mates, ship captains in the whaling industry and the merchant navy. James Volum settled in Geelong with his brothers, Andrew Volum and William Volum. He purchased brewery there (Volum Brewery) and the Barwon paper mill at Fyansford.This set is a rare example of campaign furniture, a type of portable furniture an officer or ship captain would take with him to bring his personal belongings. "A veritable powder puff of the stone ages and one of the most interesting relics of the Aborigines yet found on Phillip Island. A Grinding Mill for the soft red stone used for decorating the body. It was picked up by Mr H. R. Balfour of Hopetown Road, Toorak, in November 1904 and was kindly given to a member of the Phillip Island & Western Port Historical Society. Although used for the last ime more than 100 years earlier, some of the ground stone adheres to the surface that has been smoothed by much use." Taken from the label associated with this object.
