In the period 5-20 March 1988, ‘A’ Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles participated in an exercise conducted at Puckapunyal by 4th Infantry Brigade (Reserve) codenamed ‘Fiery Cauldron’. Other units participating included 5th/6th Battalion and 8th/7th Battalion Royal Victorian Regiment, 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse Regiment and 1st Armoured Regiment. The training focussed on armoured/infantry cooperation, in particular the use of armoured personnel carriers. Annie Halfey (nee Marston) was the daughter of Carlington George E. Marston, a chemist of Smith Street, Collingwood. Marston had extensively speculated on land in Kew and in this way had made his money. Marston was the owner of 'Wimba' in Cotham Road, having purchased the house in 1879. Annie Marston married the eminent Victorian pioneer John Halfey, and together they made their home at Ordsall (later Southesk) in Cotham Road, Kew. She died in March 1909. Destination roll that was used in Malvern Depot trams, Melbourne, until the late 1960's. Roll on linen, with white letters on black background. Has stencilled words "STOP" on top and bottom of rolls, stencilled miniature destination on rear to assist driver to locate the destination. Letters approx. 140 high. Roll consists of an unpainted section 535 long at top and 360 long unpainted section at base. Painted section approx. 7.2m long. Roll has oil and dirt stains in the middle portion, but the last three destinations are very worn with the black paint in a deteriorated condition.
