... Trams ...Framed and glazed photograph of cable tram set, trailer 233, at the Victoria St Terminus, c1900. Has a factory and water tank in the background. Cable tram dummy is loaded with gentlemen and there is a paper boy in front of the trailer. Print mounted onto a wooden chip board and sealed with brown tape around the edges. Two screwed frame hanging supports on either side with one run of string between them. Frame - brown and gold with a buff and black line framed around the photograph. Book review from The Courier, titled "Tram ride to success", reviewing a book "The Promise of Gold and its results" written by David Griffiths. Looks at the life and work of John Garibaldi Roberts a supporter of the Arts and Chief Accountant of the Melbourne Tramway and Omnibus Co (MTOCo) and later the manager of the cable tram system for the MMTB. He retired in 1923. Has photos of the family, John at his work desk in 1910 and the directors of the MTOCo. Item written by Caleb Cluff of The Courier. One of Roberts guests was C J Dennis, who wrote Songs of the Sentimental bloke" while staying at Roberts place in the Dandenongs which had been formed from disused horse buses. ... trams ...Demonstrates domestic items manufactured soon after the establishment of the tramway systems in Ballarat.Ash Tray - white glazed on front, unglazed rear with gold edge trim, light weight China in the shape of a "spade" with an image of the intersection of Sturt St and Lydiard St from the Post Office looking at the buildings on the south side of Sturt St including the Town Hall with two electric trams and the tram lines in the view. One of the trams is hauling a trailer. Possibly made mid to late 1900's. Yields information about the tram painted for the centenary of the discovery of gold in Ballarat and the official launch of the tram. Significance would be higher if names of people known.1116 - Colour copy print of a colour photograph of SEC Ballarat No. 18 painted in gold and white for the centenary of the Borough of Sebastopol. Taken outside the Sebastopol Town Hall possibly at the time of its launch, as the driver and conductor are standing by the tram and a lady with a name tag next to one of the crew. Taken by Mrs. V. Butler in 1964 on a colour slide, from which print taken from. Tram has gold paint on the end and side panels with the "1864 1964" on the end panel and "100" on the side panel. Tram showing destination of "Lydiard St. Nth" indicating it was possibly a service tram. Domestic object - Coaster set, Paul Stephen-Daly trading at Louchrilau Nominees Pty Ltd, c1984
... Trams ...Set of 4 drink coasters, with a blue felt back gold plastic front with an impression of a Melbourne tram contained within a black finished cardboard box. Each coaster has the imprint of the Melbourne Tourism logo, 150 years of Melbourne, produced for the Victoria's 150th celebrations 1984-85. Box has the Australian Made logo in gold printing. The coasters feature: Z3 class - 1980 - has a Stephen Daly trademark logo on the rear. W2 class - 1927 R Class - 1266 (Melbourne cable tram) - 1885 x 2 No. T class - 1917 Coasters finished with square corners, while those of the earlier production finished with rounded corners. Also within the box are the earlier produced coasters (see Reg Item 1835) of the A class and X class trams. Produced by Paul Stephen-Daly trading at Louchrilau Nominees Pty Ltd. Photo shows Bendigo 18, painted in the Bendigo Trust colour scheme at the Mine terminus, late 1980's or early 1990s. It was originally converted by the SEC to a one-man tram but not used as such. Converted by the Bendigo Trust to a enclosed car with entries at either ends. Operated by the Ballarat Tramway Museum during 2001 to 2005 to celebrate 150 years of Gold, where it carried its Melbourne number of 45. Trams ...Yields information about the appearance of Sturt St following the introduction of electric trams in 1905 and has a strong association with the work of Sovereign Hill and Rose Stereograph Co.Postcard reproduction - sepia coloured - of an ESCo tram near the intersection of Doveton St. and Sturt St. travelling west along the south side of Sturt Street. Photo appears to be taken soon after opening of the electric trams, as the tramway is well paved compared to the rest of the street which shows vehicle tracks etc. Small horse drawn vehicle crossing in front of the photograph. Shows buildings along the north side of Sturt St. and the building at the SE corner of Doveton St. ESCo tram has destination board on the front dash of the tram. Bendigo photos: 1 - No. 28 at the depot 2 - ditto 3 - 24 and another bogie tram in side the depot 4 - No. 3? inside the depot 5 - 12, scrubber - 17 and two bogie trams 6 - scrubber and other bogie trams. 7 - general view with 24 and other bogie trams 8 - ditto 9 - Four trams at the Gold Mine, lead by 28. 10 - 19 at the Gold Mine 11 - single trucker with "tram tours" sign on the front 12 - 28 and two other cars at the Joss House, North Bendigo 13 - 19 and two other cars at the Joss House 14 - 30 at depot junction and loop 15 - 28 and 18 16 - 18 in the loop 17 - 28 and 18 McCrae St 18 - 28, 18 and 30 ditto 19 - 19 20 - No. 18 and 28 in Pall Mall with The Beehive in the background. Photo of SEC tram no. 31 in Main St, Ballarat East, with destination of "Gardens via Drummond St." Tram has been fitted with dash canopy lighting, but not the large white strip under the lighting. Has small triangles on the panels. Also has a small ad for White Horse whisky. Shows buildings on either side of Main St. and the Caltex service station in the background on Main Road and Bridge St. Photo taken 23-6-1962. Copy made Oct. 2001 for the "gold, Gold GOLD" temporary exhibition - colour laser print onto card, with Velcro dots on rear. Stored in box D1 (Display Box) 02/2003. Shows the style of overhead construction, signal contactors, the service station, its clock and associated advertising. Three ladies are crossing the road. Photo taken on 23.4.1950 at 3.05pm. Advertising on service station has Atlantic, Shell, and Castrol. Has multiple petrol dispensing bowsers. Clocks has directional arrows for Melbourne and Geelong. Tram tracks visible.
