Painting: Walter MAGILTON, Walter Magilton, Sunlight and Shadows, Warrandyte, 2011
Walter Magilton's professional painting career is highlighted by numerous solo exhibitions, five of which have been in Great Britain. He has also won countless prizes, which include many 'Best in Show' awards. Walter is represented in a great number of private and corporate national and international collections, including ART Bank, in approximately twelve countries. This painting is a one of a series of approximately eight works of the river at Warrandyte and the local creeks, with particular emphasis on the reflections in the water and of the wattle growing along the banks. I was particularly inspired by Penleigh Boyde who did similar work while living in Warrandyte in the early 1920s.'Sunlight and Shadows, Warrandyte' is an oil on canvas painting depicting the Warrandyte landscape, featuring a winding creek with beautiful reflections cast upon it. The colour palate comprises muted green and earth tones, with a vivid aqua for reflective water.walter magilton, nillumbik, warrandyte -

Debbie LLOYD Debbie Lloyd returned to study in 2005 completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) degree at the University of Ballarat (now Federation University) in 2007, with honours the following year. She returned to the university as Artist in Residence in 2009. During her time at the University Debbie exhibited in many group exhibitions and her work was selected for the National Graduates Show at PICA in Western Australia. Debbie’s first solo exhibition was held at Space22 in Ballarat, towards the end of 2010. This item is part of the Federation University Art Collection. The Art Collection features over 1000 works and was listed as a 'Ballarat Treasure' in 2007.Two artworks featuring a third dimension created with folded paper. Artist's Statement: "My artwork explores the visual experience that can be achieved using black and white, lineal patterns or by creating illusion and surface movement through the simple manipulation and repetition of forms. In these works I have used everyday objects, and shapes, repeated, reconfigured and recontextualised to provide the viewer with visual challenges that slow down and complicate the reading of the work. In the words of a former lecturer of mine, who kindly delivered the opening speech at one of my exhibitions – There is in Debbie’s work a belief in the transcendental power of repetition, a tribute in many respects to the fact that human kind is defined by nothing more noble and uplifting than its ability and obligation to persist." Painting - Oil painting, John Dollery, The Chase, c. 1980s
This painting shows a historic depiction of Australian whalers in action at sea, and shows the scale of man to whale. Whaling was one of the first industries in early Victoria. John Dollery was born in London in 1933. As a child he loved to draw and was a frequent visitor to the National and Tate Galleries. In 1957 Dollery came to Australia, settling in Queensland in 1965. After receiving a prize in a drawing exhibition, he began painting in oils, and is entirely self-taught. Whilst in Queensland he painted most of his canvases strictly from life and in 1977 he moved to Melbourne where he established himself as a full-time artist. John was very interested in Australia’s history, and most of his work represents this theme. Many of his pieces are in collections both in Australia and overseas. Dollery’s daughter is also an artist and has exhibited both her father's and her own works together in an exhibition 'Now and Then, Father and Daughter'.The painting is a significant work by artist John Dollery. Its subject of whaling shows an early Australian industry and shows the scale of man to whale. The decorative frame is appropriate for the era in which the scene would have taken place.Painting in oil on canvas, in gilt carved timber frame. Seascape, depicting a whale hunt. A spouting whale is behind a whale boat with six whalers aboard. A tall ship with seamen aboard is behind the whale. Two other tall ships and another whale boat are in background. Drawing, Slawa Horowitz-Duldig, Head of a woman (with eyes closed) by Slawa Horowitz-Duldig c. 1921, c.1921
The influence of Symbolist art is clear in Slawa's early folios of drawings and paintings where familiar themes of dream-like states, apparitions and mythological creatures are used. Later drawings such as Head of a Woman with closed eyes, c.1921 show a boldness and psychological intensity reminiscent of notable member of the Vienna Secession, painter Egon Schiele whose final exhibition took place in Vienna in 1918. Map - Tulloch & Brown's Map of the Colony of Victoria, Tulloch & Brown, 1856
The map was created by Tulloch and Brown. David Tulloch was one of the earliest engravers and lithographers in the state of Victoria. He arrived in Melbourne from Greenock, Scotland, on 3 January 1849. Following the discovery of gold Tulloch went to the Victorian goldfields in 1851, commissioned to make sketches of the diggers and the diggings for Ham’s Illustrated Australian Magazine. In November 1852 Tulloch set up in business as engraver, draughtsman, copperplate printer and lithographer. Tulloch took a map engraver, James Davie Brown, into partnership in March 1853; the several maps and specimens of commercial engraving they showed at the 1854 Melbourne Exhibition were awarded a bronze medal. That year Tulloch and Brown also received a silver medal at the Victorian Industrial Exhibition. The partnership was dissolved towards the end of 1856.This is a very early map of the Colony of Victoria including Belvoir (now know as Wodonga).A foldable map mounted on linen and with a board cover. It records the Colony of Victoria according to Surveyor's Records revised in 1857.
