After being restored again in 1988/89, this building became the Resource Centre of the Linton & District Historical Society. In 2017 was given a fresh coat of paint and a colour change back to cream and brown.Colour photograph of a Californian bungalow style building, painted cream and brown, which has some iron lacework decorating the small front porch. Born 1833, Tipperary, Ireland. Son of Patrick O'Meara and Ann O'Brien. Married Maria O'Brien. Died 11 Nov 1910. J.J. O'Meara. According to the first Lands Dept. plan of the area, a J.J. O'Meara is shown as owner of lot 13 in Sussex Street, Linton, which is part of the block now occupied by the Shire Offices. In an early Post Office Directory (1868), J.J. O'Meara is listed as "Timber Merchant", Sussex Street, Linton.Black and white copy of original portrait showing a man, standing with his right hand resting on the back of a chair. He is wearing a light coloured suit, white shirt and dark bow tie. His left hand is in the pocket of his jacket, which is done up with a single button on the top of the jacket. ... was behind the shop and house at 75 Sussex Street, Linton..., the cottage was behind the shop and house at 75 Sussex Street, Linton ...From the early 'Index of Photographs' held at LDHS: "This tiny cottage, more like a dolls house, now stands behind Murrells newsagency in Linton. It stood at one time down near the entrance to the Recreation Reserve but was moved up to its present site when Dan Cornish carried on his boot and shoe store and repairs. Murrells later purchased the premises." Certificate of Title for 75 Sussex Street shows that Dan Cornish became the proprietor of this property in 1890. Dan Cornish died in March 1932, and the property was purchased in July that year by William Murrell.Black and white copy of original photograph of a very small house with lattice around the verandah, and with hanging baskets and flowery garden beds in the front. The date of the photograph is unknown. Miss Carrie ...The Morgan family ran a store in Sussex Street from 1894, known as the Linton Economic Store. It was run between c.1906 and 1930 by J.H. (John Hutchison) Morgan, between 1930 and 1956 by R.H. (Robert Harold) Morgan, and between 1956 and 1964 by S.E. (Selwyn Eric) Morgan. Alwyn Roberts worked at the store from about 1946. See information in Charles & Alwyn Roberts family file. Elizabeth Lock's aunt and uncle, Vera and James Johnson, bought the house from the Donaldson family in the mid 1930s. Elizabeth Lock, b.1934, often stayed for extended periods with her aunt and uncle and briefly attended school at Linton in 1941.
