Book, Victoria Illustrated 1910 x 3, 1910
These are three copies of ‘Victoria Illustrated’, a publication issued in 1910 by the Victorian Government containing information and photographs of places in Victoria. There are fifteen pages describing Warrnambool. One copy belonged to Bert and Henri Worland. It is presumed that Bert was the older brother of Henri Worland, the Town Clerk of Warrnambool from 1918 to 1949. Henri Worland was one of Warrnambool’s most important historians and was responsible for collecting much of the historical material that is now in the possession of the Warrnambool and District Historical Society. He also wrote about Warrnambol’s history and was well-known in the 1940s for his 3YB radio broadcasts about Warrnambool’s history. His brother Albert was an insurance agent in Warrnambool. This book is of considerable importance as the material on Warrnambool and district covering the year 1910 is of great interest to historians today and is much used. There is a wealth of information on many Warrnambool businesses at that time. The connection with the Worland family is also of interest. These three copies of ‘Victoria Illustrated’ contain information on Victoria early in the 20th century and contain printed text, many black and white photographs and illustrations and advertisements for Victorian businesses. .1 A hard cover book with a dark blue cover and a pasted brown covering on the front and back cover. The front cover has white lettering and an image of a shield with a crown and the Southern Cross and the back cover has an illustrated advertisement for Buchanan’s Whisky. The inscriptions are handwritten in blue ink. .2 The cover is completely detached and the spine is missing. There are 14 pages missing at the end of the book. .3 The cover is missing with a photocopied front page. The outside pages are tattered and three pages are missing from the back. .1 - ‘W.P.T. to Bert & Henri Worland’ ‘H. Worland’ history of warrnambool, henri and albert worland -

Letter book 5, 1910
This letter book has letters, invoices and sketch maps and dates from 1910 to 1914. It came from the office of John William Crawley, Junior, an engineer, surveyor and architect in private practice in Warrnambool and also the official engineer for the Shire of Warrnambool from 1895 to 1935. His father, brother and son were also engineers and worked in that capacity or as the Shire Secretary for the Shire of Warrnambool, with the Crawley family recording a total of 132 years of service to the Shire. The letter book was passed on to John Crawley’s son, Rolf, engineer for the Shire of Warrnambool from 1935 to 1968. The letter book then came into the possession of Michael Hand who took over the private surveying business of Rolf Crawley in Warrnambool and the Warrnambool and District Historical Society has acquired the letter book, one of several Crawley ledgers, from the estate of Michael Hand. This letter book is of considerable significance as it contains maps, plans, sketches and written information, the work of John William Crawley, Junior, the Shire of Warrnambool engineer for 40 years. It will be very useful for research purposes. This is a brown-covered letter book of 750 pages with a mottled blue inside lining. The pages contain an alphabetical index and copies of handwritten letters and sketch maps and plans. There is one loose letter dated 1937. The pages are somewhat stained and the spine on the cover has been torn away. There is a mauve stamp on the first page. ‘5’ ‘Rolf L. Administrative record - Victorian Railways Time Table 1910, 1910
The Wodonga line and train station opened in November 1873 when the section of the line from Wangaratta was completed. The expansion of the railways to the northeast of Victoria occurred after the Victorian Government took over the railways in 1867 and the trains serviced large towns such as Seymour, Wangaratta and Wodonga, as well as smaller towns along the way. The first section of the Wodonga to Tallangatta line opened in 1889 and was further extended in 1891. It was a vital community link until the passenger service closed in September 1961 The last regular goods train on the line ran on 21st April 1978. The north- east train line to Wodonga remained a significant factor in the development of Wodonga as a rural city in the 20th century. Local significance due to the importance of the railways to Wodonga as a means of transport, communication and impact on business and commerce. State and national significance due to the role played by the railways in opening up the country for development.A bound volume of the Victorian Railways Time Table for 2nd May 1910 to 30th November 1910.
