St Kilda was declared a city on 2/12/1890. In commemoration of the centenary, a conservatory in the St Kilda Botanical Gardens was opened on 2/12/1990 by the Mayor, Cr. Melanie Eagle, at a Garden Festival. Examples of Melbourne Legacy Club newsletters, covering the activities of Melbourne Legacy Widows' Club. Information includes a notice from the Chairman of the Widows' Committee, dates of meetings, possible day trips and theatre outings, and cruises. The ladies were welcome to attend monthly meetings, card afternoons, indoor bowls competitions, outings and tours, plus the annual fete and Christmas concert. The first edition of the newsletter was in 1960, previously there had been a quarterly magazine but the distribution was limited, they changed to a 4 page newsletter format to reach more of the widows. By 1987 and 1988 it was a 8 page publication, by the end of 1989 it was 12 pages long. Editions were edited by Joan Miller, the Widows Club Co-ordinator. Various pages of interest have been added to show different news items. [from a contemporary report:] The festival parade was held at 11.00 am on Saturday, 10 November 1990, commencing in Youth Road (behind Eltham Railway Station) and Diamond Street. As per tradition, the Shire of Eltham Historical Society entered a float in the parade but for the first time combined with the Diamond Valley Arts Society to produce the float. The theme of the parade was ''Spring into Summer". In accordance with this theme the Society's float depicted artists on a spring painting excursion. Part of the group was "Walter Withers" painting a landscape. There was also another artist painting a portrait of a girl in a spring costume. Joh Ebeli was responsible for preparation of the float. The float won the prize for the best display. This envelope was specifically produced for the 75th Anniversary of the Royal Australian Survey Corps. This First Day cover envelope was stamped at the Bonegilla Military Post Office on 29 June 1990 in preparation for the Corps birthday on 1 July. The School of Military Survey was located at Bonegilla Victoria adjacent to Lake Hume reservoir. The envelope was designed by Lynette Brown from the Australia Post Graphic Design Studio utilising illustrations produced by Brian Clinton, Melbourne.Royal Australian Survey Corps 75th Anniversary First Day Cover Envelope.
