Photograph, Ron Grant, The Eltham Peace Group hanging the Hiroshima Day Banner on the Community Notice Board, Arthur Street, Eltham; Community Arts 1986 'As We Are' Banner Project Group, Hiroshima Day, 6 August 1986
Arthur Street, Eltham next to ANZ Bank The Hiroshima Day Banner was made by Jacky Talbot as part of the project. The women wanted to do something for Hiroshima Day and suggested that a workshop be set aside to make a banner. The artist was concerned about the remaining time scheduled for the project and spent several days "whipping" up the banner herself. For the artist this banner was to prove quite significant. The women hung it at the Community Notice Board on Hiroshima Day and were photographed by the local newspaper publicising the group and drawing wider community attention to the remembrance of the day. Although no new members joined the group from this activity, the artist felt that she was more fully accepted by the group afterwards. This banner has initiated a small group of women committed to peace. The artist has also continued to liaise and meet with the women as time permits. Future group plans include: making kimonos to wear when carrying the banner, participating in the Palm Sunday March, an observance of Hiroshima Day activity, which is yet to be decided, establishing contact with a sister-town in USA and USSR and supporting Eltham Council's stance as a Nuclear Free Zone. Booklets, Collett, Bain and Gaspar, Printers, 1 Heatherlie Homes Building Appeal 1979 .2 Heatherlie Warrnambool, 1979, 1981
These booklets come from the estate of Brue Morris, editor of the Warrnambool Standard from 1946 to 1968. He was an important historian in Warrnambool, writing many historical articles for the Standard newspaper during his editorship and after his retirement. He kept files and other material on many topics related to Warrnambool’s history and Heatherlie was one of these. Heatherlie is a site in Koroit Street Warrnambool occupied by flats for the elderly. The name comes from the name of the original property owned by the Warrnambool furniture maker and seller, E.B. Phillips. Heatherlie Homes is a project established in 1979 under the auspices of the Methodist Church in Warrnambool and today the project is operated by a Uniting Church committee. These two booklets are of historical interest detailing the establishment of Heatherlie Homes in Warrnambool and the history of the property and its buildings in 1981. The booklets are useful to researchers..1 This is a booklet of 8 pages with black print on a buff-coloured background. The cover has a sketch of the proposed Heatherlie project. The booklet has plans, sepia-coloured photographs and information for donors. There are two loose flyers re the appeal. .2 This is a booklet of 22 pages. It has an orange cover with reproductions of the building opening plaque and a Uniting Church statement. The booklet contains historical facts about Heatherlie and the Uniting Church and reports on Heatherlie’s progress. Domestic object, Drink Coasters (4)
These coasters depict scenes from Warrnambool – the Botanic Gardens, The Hopkins River mouth and the Wollaston Bridge. All are areas of historical and tourist interest. The coaster were produced to raise funds for Peters Project in Warrnambool, a charity organization dedicated to bringing improved cancer care services to Warrnambool. The organization was founded in 2008 by Vicki Jellie in memory of her husband Peter who died of cancer. The major aim of the organization was realized in 2016 when the South West Regional Cancer Care Centre was opened in a new building in Ryot Street and services to assist cancer patients in Warrnambool continue to be extended. These coasters are of some interest as examples of fund-raising material produced by the Peters Project committee to assist with the campaign to bring improved cancer care services to Warrnambool..1 .2.3.4 A wooden drink coaster with a felt base and a colour photograph pasted on the top section.1 Warrnambool Gardens .2 Hopkins River Mouth .3 Wollaston Bridge .4 Warrnambool Gardenspeter’s project, warrnambool, vicki jellie, warrnambool souvenirs -

Document - Manuscript, Robin Boyd, Under Tension, 1963
Boyd argues that modern architecture has triggered a necessity for greater harmony between architects and engineers. Boyd describes the architectural qualities of tension structures through an analysis of several case studies including projects by Frei Otto and Boyd's own house at Walsh St. Being a relatively new concept, Boyd criticises the neglect towards smaller buildings in this structural system, and also highlights some of its shortcomings. A 2-page letter from 'Arthur' (surname unknown) at the University of Melbourne's Department of Civil Engineering provides feedback to Boyd on his analyses of the chosen case studies.Original manuscript of article published in The Architectural Review Vol.134, No.801, November 1963, pp. 324 - 334. Work on paper - Paintings, Academy of Science, Canberra
The Shine Dome is one of seven projects that the Royal Australian Institute of Architects has nominated to the World Register of Significant Twentieth Century Architecture. In 1956 six architects were invited to submit plans for the Academy of Science's new building in Canberra and the Academy's building design committee selected Grounds Romberg and Boyd's proposal designed by Roy Grounds. It features a shallow arcaded concrete dome, sheeted in copper and was one of a number of domed buildings that appeared around this time internationally, expressing the optimism of the post-war years. It perfectly reflected the Academy's ambition to champion excellence in Australian science and promote international scientific engagement. Paul Wallace, a well-known Melbourne renderer, drew this perspective of the proposed design, possibly for the competition submission, in 1956.Coloured perspective of the Academy of Science buiding in Canberra.Printed text on attached sticker, 'ACADEMY OF SCIENCE, CANBERRA / 1958 / Grounds, Romberg and Boyd, / Architects'. Diazotypes, Robin Boyd's Sketch for combined project 60-64 Clarendon St + corner site, 1968
Robin Boyd’s unbuilt scheme for two residential towers for Carnich Pty Ltd in East Melbourne is one of his most striking late projects – remarkable for its daring scale, its indebtedness to the megastructural polemics of Paul Rudolph and Japanese Metabolism, and its prescience – a high-rise apartment building now sits on the same site. The drawing is spectacular: trays of space are held aloft on angled concrete props that branch off trunk-like vertical slabs. With balconies and spandrels highlighted in white, the scheme’s dynamism echoes El Lissitzky’s mad Wolkenbugel (‘Skyhooks’) while also signalling a tragic last hurrah before Boyd’s 1971 death.
