The scarf was worn by Eileen Capocchi, a member of the Eureka Youth League Choir who sang at the Youth Carnival for Peace and Friendship and donated the item. The planned event had been targeted by Prime Minister Menzies as a Communist Party activity. The Commonwealth Government pressured local Sydney Councils to deny the organisers a venue. These attempts failed. The event combined sporting, athletic and musical events at a football stadium. In later years it was the subject of two documentary films. The scarf is of historic and social significance because of its association with the Peace Carnival for Peace and Friendship of 1952 and the Eureka Youth League. The scarves were worn by all participants and by Eureka Youth League members in subsequent years. The Loyal Victoria Lodge was established in Warrnambool in1862. It was a Lodge connected with the Friendly Society Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows. Friendly Societies were established to give members assistance in times of illness and hardship and to offer insurance against such events. The MUIOOF had its origins in Manchester, England. The Warrnambool Lodge built the Oddfellows Hall in Koroit Street in 1869 and in 1872 it joined with other friendly societies and established the Friendly Societies Park in Koroit Street. The MUIOOF joined with the Australian Natives Association and today the new name in Australian Unity. No details are available on W. A. McLean but the certificate indicates that he served his country during World War Two.This certificate is of considerable interest as the Loyal Victoria Lodge was a pioneer friendly society in Warrnambool with its history going back to 1862. It is also a good example of the certificates given to Warrnambool residents who had rendered significant war time service in World War Two.Framed Certificate featuring text and a coloured picture. The picture includes: a dove, five scrolls, a laurel wreath surrounding a globe, three women in long dresses, three young children, two stylised flower beds, rays of light, a hill and four coats of arms. Fundraising badge produced to celebrate the 1919 peace. Many badges were produced at this time for popular causes. Such badges were sold in trams, buses, at railways stations and at rallies to raise money for the stated cause. This badge was produced to raise money for those affect by the war in the Geelong and District region. Badges were a popular fundraising option because of their affordable nature making them available to much of the public, while their design made them popular for collecting well into the future. Cloth handkerchief sent to family in Australia by Noel Louis Blundell, a 2nd AIF serviceman in Syria during World War 2. The handkerchief is maroon in colour and made from a square piece of silk-like cloth. The edges of the cloth have been cut in decorative pattern. The cloth has been decorated with a paint like material on one side which is gold in colour and contains some golden glitter particles.The handkerchief is inscribed around the perimeter with the following words "MEMORY OF SYRIA" and "SOUVENIR D'SYRIE". In one corner of the square there is a bird (dove?) holding a flag as it is flying over another inscription "SOUVENIR D'SYRIE". Above the flag are 17 stars. The logo of the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) shows the cross of Jesus Christ, in its light and love, standing over a darkened world — redeeming it through grace and truth. The Pisagua was a four-masted barque built in 1892 at Geestemünde, Germany. In 1901, Pisagua sailed from Lizard point to Port Pirie in 79 days. On March 12th 1912 she collided with the P&O steamship Oceana in Sussex. Pisagua was towed to Dover, Kent for repairs. The Oceana sank. P&O sued the Pisagua owners but judgment using the 'steam gives way to sail' obligation/rule found the Oceana to be at fault. The Pisagua never sailed again and was converted into a whale factory....

Kites created by Helen Bushell, Kew resident for many years, and a pioneer of kite-flying world-wide. Kites are hand-made, mainly by Helen, and many were flown in local parks of Kew. Awarded to: School Children of the Commonwealth of Australia Other Details: Of the commemorative medals issued to mark the end of the First World War, the most common was the so-called 'Peace' or 'Victory' medal issued to every child in Australia aged 0-14 years (and aged up to 16 if parents were in the armed forces). The medal was designed by Charles Douglas Richardson, better known for his work as a sculptor. Time constraints as well as pressure from the production of other victory medals meant that no single manufacturer could make the 1,670,000 medals. Six were therefore selected: Amor, Stokes, Schlank, Parkes, Angus & Coote (who later withdrew) and Platers. The medals were silvered bronze, with silver issues for special presentations. The Defence Department supplied a red, white and blue striped ribbon and pin. Distribution began in March 1919.
