This style of milk bottle began to appear in Australia in the 1930s. The number stamped on the base indicated the dairy to which the bottle belonged. Nursery milk had a higher guaranteed fat content than ordinary milk. Lady Talbot, the wife of a Victorian Governor, was associated with the movement that was to become the Free Kindergarten Union in 1908. The Talbot Milk Institute was associated with the Union. Harold Victor Pulfer was born in Bendigo in 1887 and died 8/12/1940. He lived at 12 Brougham St., Quarry Hill. At the time of his death he was listed as a merchant and left an estate worth 11,782 pounds. By 1912 he was trading as Hamilton and Pulfer from a business in Hargreaves Street, Bendigo.
