Clothing - WHITE COTTON GIRL'S NIGHTDRESS
Fine white cotton girl's night dress. Yoke at front and back. Full length back opening fastened with tie at neckline. Back yoke has three vertical pintucks on each side of opening. Front yoke has vertical pattern of pintucks and embroidered fabric with horizontal section at waist. Sleeveless nightdress overlays of embroidered fabric attached to sides of yoke to form cap sleeves over shoulders. U shaped neckline has casing with cotton tape tie. Gathered skirt attached below yokes. Finished with French seams. Lower edge of night dress trimmed with embroidered fabric with scalloped edge. Note in box with garment ''The child's nightgown is about 60 years old and was made by Mrs. Antoinette Catling for her eldest daughter''. Undated. Not attached. Clothing - FINE BLACK AND CREAM CHECK SILK FULL-LENGTH DRESS, 1850's
Very fine black and cream check silk lined in the bodice and sleeves with fine grey silk. Long sleeves are finished with a 4cm deep cuff, trimmed with a double row of cording, and a 1.5cm wide pleated frill. Two black shiny buttons trim the cuff(possibly plastic), which fastens with three press-studs. Waist is defined with one band of corded fabric. Two bands of cording outline the V neckline, which is also finished with a pleat frill. Cording, and three rows of hand - gathering outline a shaped frill at the hemline-alternately 31cm and 46cm deep. Seven black buttons fasten the front of the bodice. A placket extends into the skirt, fastened by four press-studs. Skirt has four knife pleats each side of the centre placket. Four knife pleats at each hemline, and six at centre back. These are all over-stitched with three double rows of stitching in a V shaped design. Hand stitched button holes.costume, female, black and cream silk dress -

Clothing - FULL LENGTH GREEN FLORAL DRESS WITH BLUE FRINGING - ALL HAND STITCHED
Long sleeves, with gathering at the elbow to allow movement. Finished at the wrist with two eleven cm deep frills, edged with two cm wide navy blue, cotton fringing. A four cm deep gathered frill edges the high round neckline, with a narrow piping finishing the neckline seam. Two panels at the front extend from the shoulders,to the peaked waistline. These are gathered at the shoulders, edged in navy blue fringing, and the waistline edge has the gathers alternately stitched together to form a hook and eye fasteners. A fine piping defines the peaked waistline. Bodice fully lined with cream cotton fabric. Armhole/sleeve seam finished with a fine piping.Skirt has been hand stitched into tight tiny pleats. Skirt is fully lined with cream linen, and is edged at the hemline, with one cm soft green braid. Centre front of skirt has a panel extending from the peak of the waistline, where it is 5.5cm wide to the hemline, where it is 20cm wide. This panel is edged in the navy blue fringing, and is attached to the skirt at approx 15-18 cms. Panel is fully lined with cream linen. At approx. 9-10cm spaces a 4cm fabric frill and an angled band of the navy fringing. This gives a ''ladder-like'' effect. Sleeves are bell shaped, and finished at the wrist with a 11.5cm and a 12.5cm frill, both finished with the navy fringing.costume, female, full length dress with blue fringing -

... in the RHS skirt. Clothing VICTORIAN FULL LENGTH DRESS, WITH TRAIN ...Green and gold shot silk dress. Hemline is edged with a binding of black velvet - one cm wide. Bodice lined with cream linen, sleeves lined with cream cotton, skirt lined with cream linen(?) or cotton(?). Long sleeves are shaped in a ""semi-circular'' shape at the elbow, and taper in at the wrist. Sleeves are trimmed with green fringing, and a flat green satin bow. Wrist is trimmed a 2cm wide band of cream cotton lace. Top of sleeve at shoulder is also trimmed with green and fringing encircling the sleeve top.High round neck is faced with a 1cm band, and a row of the cotton lace. Two bands of fringing give a rectangular "style'' effect on the front bodice, which is fastened at centre front with ten metal hooks, and nine hand stitched ''holes'' to fasten, and one hand stitched loop at the neckline. Fringing continues over the shoulder, into a 5-sided shape across the shoulder blades. Skirt has two pleats on RHS front and two on left hand side of back and a 7cm centre panel of tight pleating. Clothing - AILEEN AND JOHN ELLISON COLLECTION: TROUSSEAU NIGHT GOWN, 1914
Handmade ivory coloured cotton full length night gown. Front has yoke of diagonal pieces of lace with cut work and floral patterns, squares, embroidered flowers with horizontal lace pieces across shoulders. The top edge of the skirt has an edge of lace with square shapes and centre flowers of cut work across the front and back. The back has five 1cm tucks on either side of centre that extend 5cm below the lace edge. The high front neckline is square and the high back neckline is rounded. The neckline is edged with cotton broderie lace and insert lace with cream coloured satin ribbon threaded through. Below the decorative lace strip at the front is a section of fine pintucking 12cm on either side of centre and 9cm below lace strip. The night dress has a front opening extending 31cm from the throat. It has a placket with two button holes 10cm and 20cm from the throat. Two buttons on other side. No fastening at throat. French side seams. Long set-in sleeves with two rows of lace and three rows of pintucks extending from shoulder down top of sleeve to wrist. A piece of insert lace at wrist. Clothing - AILEEN AND JOHN ELLISON COLLECTION: FULL LENGTH SLEEVELESS DIAMANTE DRESS, 1950s
Full length sleeveless dress of dark blue fabric with light blue all over embossed floral pattern. Front of bodice made from one piece with two darts from the waist. Back same as above. Square neckline formed by pleated section of fabric (upward facing knife pleats) across the front. The pleating continues on the shoulder panels at the front. 13cm wide at shoulders. The shoulder pieces continue to attach at the back bodice but widen to form a rounded collar effect on either side. At centre back where collar joins, a folded piece of fabric is attached to form two tails of a bow falling past the waist (39cm). A decorative metal clasp with three rows of diamantes is attached at the top of the bow, 7cm below the neckline. On the front bodice there are two decorative rows of diamantes below the shoulders where the shoulder piece joins the pleated section across the front. Front and back bodice dip slightly at centre. Side opening on LHS with 36cm metal zipper from armhole. Hook and eye at top. Fabric piping around waistline front and back. Skirt made of four pieces. Centre and side seams. Gathered into waist (bodice) with series of small pleats random (uneven) knife and box flat seams. Large stitches visible on front of bodice where pleated section is visible. 2cm wide strips of elastic hand stitched inside each shoulder section, attaching front and backs of bodice. Clothing - MERLE HOULDEN COLLECTION: WEDDING DRESS, April 1985
Embroidered silk tulle with an embroidered geometric pattern - .75 cm X .05 cm. 20 cm wide deep frill at hemline. Frill is made of the same fabric, but has a border of embroidered flowers edging the frill.A narrow band of satin ribbon, .05cm wide is stitched midway on the frill. The same frill outlines a deep V shaped neckline front and back, starting 8 cms from the shoulder along the puff sleeves. The main sheer fabric extends to a high round neckline, defined with a band of ribbon and a 3 cm wide frill at the throat. Back neckline fastens with metal hook, and handstitched loop, and a zip extends on the main body of fabric. Back of skirt is gathered, and front has three pleats either side of centre to give fullness to the skirt. Fine elastic marks a frill at the elbow length sleeves, finished with a ribbon bow. Bodice and skirt are lined with silk taffeta fabric, including a frilled skirt, bodice extends to a V shaped waistline. The dress mounted on silk taffeta, extended to a train at the back. Clothing - MERLE HOULDEN COLLECTION: CHRISTENING GOWN, 1885
White embroidered cotton Christening gown. Eleven cm deep bodice with five vertical front neck to bodice and skirt seam, panels of embroidered cotton.Neckline has a casing with drawstring of cotton tape. Cap sleeves gathered at neckline edge, and outer edge trimmed with embroidered cotton. Skirt gathers to the bodice. Bodice also has a casing and drawstring tie, leaving a centre back opening from neck to skirt. Skirt is 84 cm long, and has an elaborately embroidered centre panel - full length. Two bands of embroidered cotton edge the centre panel. Embroidered "bobbles" similar to french knots extend full length beside the embroidered bands, and also form part of the embroidery on the bands. The gown was made by Merle's Grandmother for the christening of Merle's grandmother Geuer's son in 1885.costume, children's, christening gown -

Clothing. Infant's cream silk christening coat. High round neckline with fold over collar with rounded edges -10 cm at front dipping to 13 cm at centre back.Collar finished with scalloped edge. Yoke at front and back edge with decorative embroidery that continues along either side of full length front opening to hemline. Hemline finished with deep scalloped edge. Front skirt has 3.5 cm smocked section below the yoke. Lower sections of front skirt on each side have three embroidered cut work sun patterns (10 cm) surrounded by embroidered leaf patterns. Back skirt section gathered into yoke. Lower edge of yoke has decorative embroidery. Front opening fastened below yoke with two X 1.8 cm purlescent buttons and button holes. Clothing. Infant's cream coloured silk coat with yoke front and back. Fold over collar (12 cm) with embroidered flowers on the front with embroidered zig zag edging. Round neckline with casing threaded with 1.8 cm patterned silk ribbon. Yoke sections lined with cotton fabric. Long sleeves gathered all shoulders, with embroidered pattern at wrist with 1.7 cm lace trim. Full length front opening with embroidered zig zag edging that continues around hemline of garment. Floral embroidered patterns across the back of the skirt above the hemline, and at the lower corners of the front panels. Clothing. Women's white cotton full length half petticoat.Centre back opening (25 cm) fastened with cotton tape ties attached to edges of waistband(4cm). Skirt of petticoat shaped by darts around waistline and pleats at centre back. Hemline edged with 1 cm scalloped lace. Flounced layer at bottom of petticoat (38 cm) has two horizontal 1 cm ribbon strips, a zig zag lace insert (6 cm wide) and scalloped broderie lace edging (8 cm). Clothing - WEDDING DRESS, 1950
Wedding Dress. A very delicate, beautiful dress, in a very fragile state, worn over a satin petticoat(11400.1154). Lace bodice, and full length tapered, lace sleeves. Boat shaped neckline, outlined with a tulle insert, that brings the neckline to a high round neckline at the throat. This fastens with two metal press-studs on the left shoulder. This high yoke is edged at the bodice edge with an 8 cm deep frill of tulle, edged at both sides with a narrow frill of tulle, and sewn to the yoke to give a scalloped effect. Skirt is sheer and made from two layers of tulle. A band of lace, 9 cm deep borders the hemline, at knee level and at hip level. Leisure object - DOLL COLLECTION: KAMMER AND REINHARDT PORCELAIN DOLL, 1910-1914
Kammer and Reinhardt porcelain and cloth baby doll mould number 116A circa 1912. She has a porcelain head, forearms and lower legs and feet. The rest of her body is a stuffed material calico. Her legs are jointed at the knees. She is dressed in a long sleeved, extended christening like robe of cream broderie anglaise. The robe has decorative pintucking and lace on the bodice, sleeves, cuffs and skirt with a contrasting broderie anglaise hem. Part of a lace insert has become unstitched at the front. Underneath is a full petticoat of white cotton with pintucking and lace with a white broderie anglaise hem. Another full length petticoat of cream linen trimmed with lace is also underneath. She has a cream knitted singlet and knickers with cream knitted bootees. She has short blonde matted hair and wears a lace trimmed broderie anglaise bonnet with satin ribbons to match her robe.Initials K and R either side of a Star of David and the words Simon and Halbig below with the mould no 116/Atoys, dolls, porcelain -

Clothing - MAGGIE BARBER COLLECTION: FULL LENGTH LONG SLEEVED, BLACK BEADED DRESS, Late 1800's
Clothing. High stand-up embroidered net collar-close fitting to the neck, and fastening at the back with now 4 metal hooks and loops (one hook missing) and edged at top and bottom with tiny black beads. Five metal ''curved wires'' 7 cm long, are spaced around the up right ''collar'' (to hold in place). The embroidered net forms a V shaped panel at the centre front, and has 15 silk covered oval buttons .8 cm long, from throat to lower bodice. This panel is bordered by embroidered and beaded braid, 7 cm wide and giving a cross-over effect. Cotton tape inside waist 66 cm long fastens with two metal hooks and eyes.Under this lace cross-over, the bodice is shirred and pleated, to give fullness for movement. Pleats are ''caught-in'' at the waistline. An elbow length over-lay of sheer silk fabric, edged with the beaded braid. The sleeves are silk fabric to the elbow, and then narrow in to a three hook plackett at the wrist. This lower sleeve with a 2.5 cm lace frill, and a spotted tulle fabric, and ''dotted'' at the upper side with a double row of tiny black beads. A false tucked effect at opprox knee level at back of skirt. Back hemline extends to a small ''train''. Hemline is heavily weighted.costume, female, full length long sleeved black dress
