The Hepburn Pool was built in Spring Creek during the 1930s by the Zelman's of Bellinzona Guest House. Alberto Zelman's paid for local workers to construct the pool to their specifications so the visitors to local guest houses could swim on hot days. The Hepburn Pool was used for the Victorian Swimming Championships, with 6 stones marked at one end for each lane . It is 50 yards long, the length required for competitions. In 1969 the Daylesford Olympic Swimming Pool was constructed so this 'old swimming pool' was neglected, fortunately in 1993 local volunteers associated with the Savoia Hotel returned the pool to its former glory with the help of old photos and a lot of hard work. Two well known swimmers swam at the pool in the Victorian swimming Championships, they were Annette Kellerman and Frank Beaurepaire. The Pool was named Victoria's Favourite Built Place in 2004 as part of the Victorian Government's involvement in the International Year of the Built Environment. Victor Zelman (1877-1958) was the brother of Violinist Alberto Zelman, and Ernest Zelman. He planted gum trees around his cottage, in 7th Street Hepburn Springs , and around Hepburn Pool, many of which are still standing. He was known for driving a caravan through the bush on painting expeditions. Battista Borsa was from Bellinzona in Ticino, Switzerland. He named his house on the corner of Main road and Seventh St in Hepburn Springs "Bellinzona". His daughters ran the house as a guest house in 1900. This house was burnt down in the 1906 Bushfire. it was rebuilt in Edwardian tradition, and was again burnt down and rebuilt on a much larger footprint. In the past, milk was always packaged in glass milk bottles The first glass bottle packaging for milk was used in the 1870s. The first company to do so may have been the New York Dairy Company in 1877 with a small glass lid and a tin clip. Lewis P. Whiteman holds the first patent for a glass milk bottle c1884,which was sealed with a waxed paper disk. The Express Dairy Company in England began glass bottle production in 1880. This work was first commissioned by the Melbourne city council as part of a celebration of the opening of the Birrarung Marr park. 25 victorian sculptors were given $2,500.00 to create a work which would be part of the park for about 6 months. Date of manufacture and installation: 2002 'Silent/Listen' was gifted by the artist, Petrus Spronk, to the people of Hepburn Springs in July 2001.Two smooth rectangular engraved granite slabs placed directly on the ground.
