These photographs were taken at Flag Day, an annual sports competition between the Army Survey Regiment and the School of Military Survey, at Bendigo on the 10th of October 1986. The two RASvy units took turns each year to host the event. The day competition usually comprised basketball, cross country, golf, sailing, squash softball, tennis, touch football, tug-of-war and volleyball. The evening competition often included darts, carpet bowls, hookey, quoits and snooker. The scoreboard in the background in photo .11P indicated an emphatic victory for the Army Survey Regiment.This is a set of 13 photographs of Flag Day, Army Survey Regiment versus the School of Military Survey, at Bendigo on the 10th of October 1986. Tippett was a member of SMB Council from 1934-1960. He was President of the Council from 1940-1960. He was a member of the Interim Council established to plan the development of the Victorian Institute of Colleges. He then became a member of the Council of the Victorian Institute of Colleges. The Library Building at SMB is named after him. In 1975 he was recognised by the State Government and awarded an MBE. Hon Barry Jones, Member of State Government from 1972 to 1977. This is one of four surf oars now on display at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum and Village. The oars were once owned by the Warrnambool surf Live Saving Club. They are painted in the original club colours of brown and white. The Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club was formed in 1930, and the elected President was Mr Fletcher Jones (later Sir Fletcher Jones). It is one of the oldest lifesaving clubs on the Victorian Coast. The donor was a member of the surf boat crew that won the 1952 Victorian Surf Boat Championships; the crew comprised Geoff Scott, Ron Blackney, Wes McLaren, Jim Tibb, and Stan Stephens. This oar is significant for its connection with the Warrnambool Surf Life Saving Club and as an example of equipment used for saving lives at sea in the local Warrnambool community.
