The Servicemen's Club 73 - 75 Havilah Rd was a Co - Operative of the 3 Bendigo RSL's being Bendigo, Kangaroo Flat & Eaglehawk Sub Branches. In 1977 the Bendigo, Eaglehawk, Kangaroo Flat RSL Co operative Society Ltd was formed with Mr Des Paterson as Chairman and Mr Jack Barnes as Secretary. The Co op owned the facility and the Bendigo & District Servicemen's Club was formed to operate the facility. It was built in 1978 and a liquor license was finally granted in August 1979 and opened. It was officially opened on December 19th 1979 by the Hon R.J. Hamer premier of Victoria. In the year 2000 the premises became the Bendigo District RSL Sub Branch Inc. Des Paterson was also on the of the BDSC Committee until 1984. He was heavily involved in the establishment of the BDSC. With the Bendigo RSL Sub Branch he was elected to Committee in 1973, Jnr Vice President 1974, Snr Vice President 1975, President 1976. Jack Barnes first Secretary refer Cat No 8040. Photograph BDSC. Certificate - APPRECIATION EAGLEHAWK RSL AUXILIARY, C. May 1946
This certificate was awarded by the Eaglehawk RSL Sub Branch to Miss H. Hutchinson (Hanna) on 17.5.1946 in Appreciation and loyalty to Service personnel as a Member of the Eaglehawk Ladies Auxiliary during the War years. The Auxiliaries efforts abled the furnishing of the Club rooms and raise 230.00 Pounds for the Returned Soldiers Distress Fund. Hanna was awarded the BEM (British Empire Medal in 1978 Refer Cat No 8212.2 for her Sister Florrie and Photo Cat No 8200P. These Constitutions dated 14.11.1952 with the name's , "A.V. Palmer - President" (Bendigo RSL) "N.D. Wilson - President - Vic Branch R.S.S.A.I.L.A". The small booklets were headed "Rules of the Bendigo Returned Servicemen's Club - 1956" As far back as 1950 there was discussion within the Sub Branch re a Club in suitable premises. A property was purchased being 11 McKenzie Street Bendigo with the title dated 9.2.1951, the facility opened on 1.6.1951 but without a Liqueur Licence. Years followed with a failure to be granted one. Finally the facility was sold to Bendigo Legacy and they occupied the building on 7.6.1959 which became known as "Legacy House". This is a very brief version of the events from the Book by Murray Poustie, refer Cat No 8093, The history of the Bendigo RSL. .3) The Rules of the Welfare Committee were in .1) folded in half. There is 6 paragraphs with a total of 18 Clause's..1) Folder cardboard covers light brown colour with taped binding, cover has typed black heading underlined in red, hand written notes in black pen added, 15 typed pages in black stapled inside with a hand written note in black written on one page. Inside the front cover stapled in is a small grey booklet with 24 pages in black text. .2) Same as .1) but without any hand written notes. .3) Two pages stapled together typed in black re "Welfare Rules".1) .2) Typed text on covers underlined, " Constitution - Bendigo - Returned Sailors Soldiers and Airmen's Imperial League of Australia". " " 451 - 500, on front, "4 January 1927 --------? " 3. " " 551 - 600, receipt No's start "26.1.27" 4. " " 601 - 650, receipt No's start, "16.2.27" 5. " " 651 - 699, on front, "651 - 700, 1.4.27 to 15.5.27". 6. " " 700 - 750, on front, "19.5.27 - 6.7.27" 7. " " 751 - 800, receipt No's start, "1.8.27" 8. " " 851 - 900, on front, " --10.27 - 16.12.27" 9. " " 900 - 950, on front, "901 - 950 - --12.27" With no 9 receipt No's 939 onwards are missing, the last date for 1927 is 31.12.27 then start 3.1.28 - 7.1.28, these are for "Subs" membership for 1928. There are two Printers, light blue binding is "Boltons print" and dark blue binding is "F.H. Parkman Printer, Arcade, Bendigo". A large amount of the receipts are for RSL Membership being 10/- (Schillings). There are many receipts to businesses and other groups, to name a few, Hall hire Various amounts, Billiards, Tomato growers, book, Bendigo Trotting Club, South Bendigo Club, Teachers Training College. The figures range from one pound one schilling - six pounds. The phone No for the Bendigo Sub Branch then was a simple "95" Nine Receipt books, seven have front and rear card covers, two have no front cover, six have readable hand written text on the front, 3 have none, all pages are pink colour, there is a small amount of pages missing over the nine, one has quite a few missing, two have a light blue binding the rest are dark blue.brsl, smirsl, receipt, 1927 -

The formation of the Bendigo District RSL Sub Branch was an amalgamation of the 3 RSL Sub Branches in Bendigo, Bendigo, Kangaroo Flat and Eaglehawk. In 1978 a "Servicemen's Club" was formed by the 3 Sub Branches as a Social venue which included lawn bowls. In year 2000 this venue became the Bendigo District RSL Sub Branch INC of the 3 Sub Branches. Kangaroo Flat retained their own Sub Branch HQ same as Eaglehawk, Bendigo’s HQ became the Sub Branch at the venue instead of the SMI at Pall Mall.Charter, timber framed with gold edging, the charter is various colours with the RSL badge central at the top with the flag either side with the word Charter in big letters under followed by the wording to establish a Sub Branch. The Catalina Club "The enclosed item of military memorabillia is presented to the Waverley Sub-branch of the returned services league by W.F. Lewton, President of the Metropolitan Division of the Piscatorial Council, in appreciation of the services by the sub-branch's anging section. The Lapel badge / tie pin is unique in as much as it depicts the only ex-services organisation granted the privilege of incorporating the Legacy Laural Wreath in it's design. This privilege was granted to our association in recognition of the establishment of an educational trust fund devised and funded by our members in order to educate to tertiary standards the children of personnel who lost their lives in the extreme sacrifice. When the functions of administring the program became too onerous for our members, then, and only then, Legacy undertook to carry the program through to its conclusion.
