This box was crafted from a portion of one of the original oak trees in the Jarrahmond WW11 Avenue of Honour.The Avenue was planted in 1955 and linked the farms of the two servicemen from Jarrahmond who lost their lives in WWII. It consisted of English Oaks interspersed with flowering peaches and cherries. Wood for the box was collected in the early 1990's by Stan Weatherall following a windstorm. Stan had the timber rough-sawn into planks by local sawmiller Max Reynolds. The timber was stored for a number of years before being given to Don McLean.A hand-made oak box. The inside base is lined in green felt. The lid is single hinged. the front panel displays a radiating pattern in the grain of the oak wood that resembles the rising sun badge of the Australian Defence Forces. Two brass pins are symbols of Australian military regalia. Inside the box is an envelope with information and letters on the manufacture of the box and presentation to Orbost. This case was donated along with the contents of over 60 navigational charts for locations all over the world. The narrow box is built to keep the charts in order and easily accessible on board a vessel. The chart case is a rare example of a container used on board a vessel for the storage and protection of navigational charts. It represents the type of equipment used by the navigator of a seafaring vessel. The charts within the case represent the places to which the vessel travelled.Chart case (or map case), wooden, has hinged opening at top. Front of case folds down and has a hook closure. It contained 65 British Admiralty navigational charts, which are listed and stored separately. A hat coat and umbrella stand is a device used to store hats and often coats on, and umbrellas within. Some catalogues in Europe marketed this furniture as a portmanteau from the French words Porter (carry) and Manteau (cloak). The front hall was the introduction to the house, and as such was an important part of the Victorian home. Furnishings were selected not only to make it a useful place to hang a hat and coat, store an umbrella and leave a calling card but also to show family wealth, social position and knowledge of current styles. A hall stand or a hat rack was the most important piece of furniture in homes at this time. New and more elaborate designs began to appear about 1840, as homes became larger and social visits became more structured. Usually made of wood and standing at least 1.5 meters tall, they have a single-pole making up most of the height, with a sturdy base to prevent toppling, and an array of lengthy pegs or hooks at the top for placement of hats. Smaller houses had smaller front halls, so a single-pole type as by the 1920s houses had become smaller. A household furniture item possibly from the 1920s that was common in houses from the early 1840s, it's significance is social, demonstrating how furniture trends change over time with the more elaborate the item the more social standing was attributed to the owners' position in society. even today persons association and ownership with inanimate objects tend to represent their social standing along with their financial and community acceptability. Mr John Wilson Gillie was born on the 31st of March 1864. On the 31st of July 1880 he was apprenticed for four years to J.J. Wilson and Sons, Nautical Instrument Makers of Sunderland. Following the apprenticeship he spent six months to a year as an ‘improver’ in Glasgow, and then started a new company ‘Wilson and Gillie’ in North Shields. At this time sail had just given way to steam and wooden ships to steel, and the railways were competing with colliers for the carrying of coal from the North East of England to London and the South. In 1858 only seven out of 44 shipyards on the Tyne were using iron, but by 1862 there were ten, employing around 4,000 men. These changes had a significant effect on nautical instrument manufacturers, as the magnetic compass for a wooden sailing vessel was very simple and required little in the way of compensation. For steel vessels much more was required and this was a period of great development, both in the compass bowl and the binnacle in which it was housed. In 1870 Sir William Thomson (later Lord Kelvin) designed his dry card standard compass, which completely replaced all previous designs. Wilson and Gillie started as agents for the Thomson compass, but later J.W. Gillie, using similar principles, redesigned the compass suspension and patented the ‘UNIT’ standard compass. It became popular with local shipowners and shipbuilders. In 1910 the firm of John Lilley and Son (which had been established in London in 1812), found themselves in financial difficulties and were saved with the help of John Wilson Gillie, who established, on the 8th of August 1911, a new firm of John Lilley and Son Limited. John Lilley and Son had been the sole London agents for Sir William Thomson, a very enviable position during this period, when the Thomson compass led the field. Unfortunately, Mr. Lilley had quarreled with the Glasgow company, who withdrew the agency and established their own branch in London (later to become Kelvin White and Hutton). On November 7th 1913, the firm of John Lilley and Son Limited of London amalgamated with Wilson and Gillie of North Shields, and after this date instruments manufactured by the two companies bore the name John Lilley and Son Limited of London and North Shields. During the 1930s many of the London nautical instrument makers were in difficulties, including John Lilley and Son Limited and Reynolds and Son, Dobbie and Clyde Limited, and Mr. J.W. Gillie arranged an amalgamation between these two companies. The new firm became Lilley and Reynolds Limited. In 1943, with estate duties in mind, the North Shields company was reconstituted and took the name of John Lilley and Gillie Limited, although the shareholders, directors and personnel remained unchanged In the early 1970s Lilley and Gillie developed close links with Observator in Rotterdam, who manufactured one of the first fully reliable transmitting magnetic compass systems. The Observator shareholders, Holland America Line, bought the share capital of John Lilley and Gillie Limited., but retained all the personnel and the directors. John Lilleys company began in 1812 growing at a time when the transition of compasses from timber ships, to steel vessels. Compasses at this time required a method of compensation to allow their inclusion in steel vessels without magnetic deviation. This therefore was a period of great development, both in the compass bowl and the binnacle in which it was housed and the Lilley company were leaders in the field. Louis Herry had a bakery and general store in Lilydale and opened another in Mount Dandenong Road, opposite the Club Hotel. His wife, Kate, mostly ran the Ringwood store. The store was previously owned by the Blood Bros, after they moved premises closer to the railway station. From the Place of Many Eagles book, "Louis was born in Purdu, France, in 1855, and came to Ringwood from Walhalla in 1887 and erected a weatherboard house and shop opposite the Club Hotel, using a Miner's Right to secure the land. When he arrived, Louis was a married man with three children, Leopold (1882), Marie (1884), John (1886). He had married Kate Handforth at Walhalla in 1879. In later years Elizabeth, Minellia, Louis and Denise were born. Kate's father was known as the midwife of the Gippsiand township because he had once been a fourth year medical student in England, but earnt a living as a goldbuyer in Victoria. Marie Herry would grow up remembering her grandfather calling sometimes at Ringwood; he would bring the children jubilee Mixture to eat and he carried a revolver in his pocket. Often he would play the violin while Marie would stepdance on the kitchen table." Leo served in WWI, whose name appears on the Ringwood Clocktower.

This photograph shows Pike's buggy with Joe Pike, Mrs George Pike, Annie Bruton and Maggie Middleditch on the verandah. Annie Bruton was the wife of Jack Bruton who came to Orbost about 1891. When land was made available for selection at Murrungowar. they took up a selection and embarked in dairying, sheep-farming and pig-raising. They transformed a veritable wilderness into a productive farm by sheer hard work and liberal expenditure. By 1892 he had secured a licence for an hotel and accommodation house, store and the first post office at Murrungowar. For a time she was licensee of the Murrungowar Hotel. In December 1897 he was living at Murrungowar when he made application for a Roadside Victualler’s License for a house situated at Boulder Creek, East Gippsland, containing four rooms in course of erection, exclusive of those required for family. He was a butcher at Orbost in 1902-03 and also had a farm on the Bendoc Road. He was a member of the first Golf committee. After leasing the hotel to Jonson's he moved to Orbost and started brick-making near the Orbost water service basin on the Bendoc Road. He had the order for the bricks required for the Masonic Hall. Mr and Mrs Bruton resided at Murrungowar for 29 years. They let their property to Messrs McDONALD and sons and retired to Orbost in December 1920. Mr Bruton had not been in very good health for the last 4 or 5 years of his life, and about a fortnight prior to his death he got wet at his brick kiln, and contracted pneumonia which led to hiThis is a pictorial record of the the Murrungowar Township which was once a thriving settlement with a hotel, store, post office and school. In the 1890s pioneers were attracted to the area with the promise of a railway from Orbost. However, when the promised railway did not eventuate most of the farms were abandoned. Much of the previously cleared areas have reverted to Forest. Prior to the digital revolution the only medium by which cartographic information could be reproduced and distributed on mass was via printed media. The final negatives (repromat) used to produce the printed products were the culmination of a complex cartographic process and were therefore carefully preserved and stored. Preservation of the so-called final negatives enabled subsequent reprinting with minimal cartographic intervention. Since the arrival of the Land Headquarters Cartographic Company at Fortuna in 1942 the repromat for all products produced by the Australian Survey Corps were carefully stored. With the disbandment of the Army Survey Regiment in 1996 the Defence Imagery and Geospatial Organisation (DIGO) inherited that repromat archive. It was immanent that the support for film based printing was ending so on 25 October 2004 a review was required to determine the way ahead for the repromat and paper maps stored in the DIGO Map Libraries. Most of these maps were produced by the Royal Australian Survey Corps. This report is the result of that review. The report recommends the disposal of the repromat and the retention of single map copies. These nine photographs of contractors felling a sequoia Californian redwood tree was taken at the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo on the 16th of September 1994. Although 23 photos were taken at the time, 14 were not scanned due to their similarity to the nine featured photos. Two sequoia Californian redwood trees were planted at the front entrance of Fortuna Villa in the early days of gold mining magnate George Lansell’s occupation in the 1870’s. They were of immense proportion and much admired during the Lansell era and RA Svy’s occupation from 1942 to 1996. In these early days of Army occupation, the trees were lopped due to concerns of their size and proximity to the Villa. The felling of the tree in 1994 was considered unsafe due to perceptions of disease. These perceptions were upsetting to staff, as some believed that although there were a few dead branches, the tree was OK. As the tree had a noticeable lean, measurements were taken indicating the tree was stable. A sequoia sapling was eventually planted as a replacement to the diseased tree. It was decided to mill and store the timber of the felled tree on-site due to its historical significance. Although future uses were not determined at the time, the timber was eventually used to construct display cabinets and souvenir pens. When Defence decided to relocate geospatial production to a new facility in Junortoun an outer suburb of Bendigo in 2008, the sequoia timber was used as a beautiful feature in the front foyer as well as several feature walls within the building, providing a historical connection Fortuna Villa.This is a set of nine photographs of contractors felling a Sequoia (Californian redwood) tree at the Army Survey Regiment, Fortuna, Bendigo on the 16th of September 1994. There is a very comprehensive study on each of the sections. The population at this time was 15697. This report has social, historical and research significance. This collection of works, “songs without words” was written in the 1830’s by Mendellson. He was of the opinion that the music should stand alone and hence no need for words. This collection of his work for piano solos is still on the music syllabus today. The stamp on the front cover J.B. Shepherd and Son relates the Shepherd family music store in Liebig Street, which operated around the turn of the 20th century . They sold pianos and other musical instruments as well as doing repairs and tuning and lessons.This collection of music scores by Mendelssohn is significant firstly because it is still used by music students 160 years after it was written and secondly this copy has local significance as it was owned by Grace Rome who was born in 1902 and was the daughter of one of Warrnambool’s most successful and longest living business people Thomas Rome, who incidently made one of the earliest sound recordings in Australia.Cream coloured card cover with dark green cloth binding with the title Mendelssohn in red text with black flourish. This Bible belonged to Meryl Swinton, a member of the Swinton family well-known in Warrnambool. William and Ann Swinton came to Warrnambool in 1854 and established a store in Timor Street and several branches of their business in other local towns. The Swinton family still has commercial interests in Timor Street. This Bible is of interest as it belonged to Meryl Swinton, a member of the Swinton family, prominent in business and community circles in Warrnambool since the mid 1800s. This is a hard cover book of 1016 pages. It has a brown leather cover with lettering embossed on the front cover and with gold lettering on the spine. The spine has become partly detached and has been mended in the past with adhesive tape, traces of which still remain on the spine and on the first and back pages. The name ‘Ruttledge’ may have no local significance thought the name ‘Rutledge’ is important in our history, commencing with William Rutledge who purchased the Farnham Special Survey in the 1840s( Tower Hill to Dennington). The name ‘Swinton’ is prominent in our history. Mrs John Swinton (Charlotte Scott nee Dunn, 1871-1944) was married to John Swinton, the son of William and Ann Swinton who came to Warrnambool in 1854. William established a store in Timor Street in the 1850s and opened branches of this store in several local towns. The Swinton family still has commercial interests in Timor Street. This book is of interest because it belonged to Charlotte Swinton, a member of the Swinton family important in Warrnambool’s commercial and community history. This is a black leather-covered book of 656 pages plus a Supplement of Hymns of 32 pages. The cover has gold lettering on the front and the spine. The pages have a gilt edging. This book was published in 1952 by the Australian Poetry Lovers’ Society. This group was based in Melbourne and was founded in 1934 by George and Ethel Fielding. In 1973 a member, Harry Hastings Pearce, wrote a history of the society. This 1952 volume contains two poems by Thomas Terrington (born 1897) - ‘Henry Lawson’ and ‘Stella’. Tom Terrington was a well-known local poet and writer from Framlingham. He has been described as a ‘rhymster of flair and skill’. He was a self-taught person with little formal education and he worked at various jobs until he took over the general store at Framlingham in his middle age. He also recorded some of the history of Framlingham, a small settlement about 24 kilometres north east of Warrnambool. The identity of ‘Fred’ in the inscription is not known. This book is of interest because it contains two poems written by Tom Terrington, a local 20th century writer and poet. This is a soft cover book of 50 pages. The cover is green with black printing and an image of two kookaburras on the front cover. The book has poems by 18 writers and a black and white photograph on page 10 of the late George Fielding. The cover is somewhat soiled. The book has been stapled but the staples have been removed. This is a programme of a concert called ‘The All Nations Night’ staged by the Warrnambool Orchestral Society and held in the Warrnambool Town Hall on Show Night, November 13th 1902. The conductor was Louis Bayer (1857-1907). Born in Germany, Bayer came to Warrnambool in 1891 and with his wife taught piano, violin, orchestration and singing and established the Warrnambool Orchestral Society. In 1896-7 Louis Bayer was the musical director at the Warrnambool Industrial and Art Exhibition, writing the Cantata for the opening ceremony and directing over 60 performances, including 22 operas and many concerts. Bayer was a composer and wrote several operas including one called ‘Federation’. Bayer’s wife was an accompaniste at this ‘All Nations Night’ concert and his son, Otto was the horn player. The concert featured the soloists, Nellie McClelland, Lucy Meares, W.D. Thomson and D. Williams. The concert may have been sponsored by Youngers Stores. This large department store was established in 1888 and closed in the 1980s. This programme is of great significance as it featured a 1902 concert conducted by Louis Bayer, one of the most important musical identities in Warrnambool’s history. These are two sheets of green-coloured paper folded in two to make eight pages. The printed material is in black type. The pages include the concert programme, a list of members of the orchestra and several advertisements for Youngers Stores. The front page has the concert title (‘The All Nations Night’) in a text box bordered by a floral pattern. John Glass Cramond and James Dickson established their business in Warrnambool in 1855 and this general store operated (firstly in Timor Street and later in Liebig Street) until 1973, making it one of the longest-running and one of the most important businesses in Warrnambool’s history. By 1868 a London agency had been established and direct imports from England began on a large scale. Many of the articles they sold, including the boot polish, were made expressly for the Cramond and Dickson store. This tin of boot polish is of great interest as an example of the goods sold by Cramond and Dickson that were made expressly for the Warrnambool store. Cramond and Dickson were one of the most important stores ever to operate in Warrnambool.This is a round metal tin originally gold-coloured and with a red tape binding to prevent its opening. The front of the tin has printing and the image of a stylized rising sun and the bottom has more printing. The bottom of the tin is indented to allow the tin to rest on the rim only. Card cases were common items used mainly by men in the 19th century. A silver card case indicated that the owner was a man of means. ‘W.Swinton’ is presumed to be William Swinton who came to Australia in 1854 and established a drapery and grocery store in Timor Street in 1865. William Swinton died in 1901 and his son, also William was Mayor of Warrnambool from 1917 to 1919. A Swinton business still exists in Timor Street today. ‘W.Wilkie’ was obviously a friend or a business acquaintance of William Swinton and may have been related to James Wilkie who came to Warrnambool in 1854 and opened a drapery shop in 1855 in Timor Street with James Butters as a partner. This is a most significant item as one that belonged to William Swinton, a prominent Warrnambool business man and a pioneer settler in the town. It also has social significance as an example of an item used by businessmen and others in the 19th centuryThis is a silver card case with a hinged lid. The silver is patterned in geometric shapes and the edges are highly ornamented with scrolls. Inside the case are five pieces of white paper which are obviously not original. This book was a prize from Warrnambool High School and donated by Mrs J.P. McMeekin. Warrnambool High School was established in 1907 and merged in the 1990s with Warrnambool North Technical School to form Warrnambool College. Roy Andrews was the Head Master of Warrnambool High School from 1940 to 1947. The McMeekins were early settlers in Warrnambool with family members in the 19th century working for the Shire of Warrnambool and operating a produce store in Warrnambool. This book is of minor interest as it is connected to Warrnambool High School, the McMeekin family and Roy Andrews.This is a hard cover book of 277 pages. The cover is green with black printing on the front cover and spine. The cover is a little stained and rubbed. The bookplate on the first page has printed material and the logo of Warrnambool High School and it is pasted in. This journal contains the original records of Nurse Thomson’s Private Hospital in Warrnambool. It contains the records of the births at the hospital from 1907 to 1924. The early records give the name of the mother and later ones give the name of the attending doctor. Ellen Thomson (1872-1940), the daughter of Eliza and Charles Trew, conducted a private hospital in Raglan Parade, Warrnambool (the site of the old Tatts Hotel Bottle Shop, next to where McDonalds Food Store is today). This journal is of considerable significance as it is an original one, listing births at a private hospital in Warrnambool from 1907 to 1924. It is the only local original private hospital journal in the collection of Warrnambool and District Historical Society and pre-dates the establishment of a maternity wing at the Warrnambool Hospital.This is a foolscap-size book with a black hard cover and gold printing on the front. It has red binding which is in a somewhat tattered state. The cover is coming away from the binding and some pages are loose. The book has printed red and blue lines and the entries on these pages are handwritten in black ink and pencil. The township of Mt. Beauty was built to provide family accommodation for personnel working on the construction of the Kiewa Scheme. construction commenced in 1946. Photo 1 is looking towards the corner of Lakeside Ave. and Kiewa Crescent. The Post Office is on the corner and the original building housing the Co op store was in Kiewa Crescent. Photo 2 is taken at a later date as the garden in front of the Post Office is well established. The Community Centre is centre left of the photo and the back buildings are the staff accommodation called "The Chalet". Photo 3. Farming country taken from Wallacedale. The Wallaces were one of he early farming families in the Kiewa Valley. Photo 4. This photo is of Junction Camp at Bogong Village and was commenced late in 1939 and by 1940 accommodated 96 men who were engaged in work on Junction Dam. Sleeping accommodation was provided in hutments, each of four rooms, each room being approx. 12 feet by 10 feet and provided for the accommodation of 2 men. This camp remained in use until November 1962.These photos have both historical and social significance. They show the type of accommodation available for workers during the construction of the SEC Kiewa Hydro Scheme as well as early streetscape views of Mt. Beauty. KVHS set up a museum at the Tawonga Camping Ground in Dec. 1969. The building was sold so items were stored from Dec. 1981. In 1985 items were displayed in Tawonga South.KVHS's history as a museum includes visitors and their town of residence. The Tawonga Store was a general store in the Upper Kiewa Valley providing for a farming community. This store which had a variety of items was the main store for many of the farming families who would travel on horse and cart to make weekly trips to the store for supplies. This ledger was used by the owner of Tawonga Store to keep a record of items sold and to whom. George Potter owned the Tawonga Store before 1920. Whit Potter, George's son, worked with his father for many years. Attached to this ledger is a sheaf of letters which were sent to the Potter's, which are relevant to the day to day operation of a General Store. The ledger gives a comprehensive list of what type of items the residents of the Kiewa Valley purchased during this period, thus has great historical significance. This inkwell was used by the staff of the Mount Beauty Post Office, from the late 1940's until the change from pen and ink to the use of fountain pens and then ball-point pens. The last Post Master at Mount Beauty rescued this item when the Mt Beauty Post Office was privatised in the 1990's. This is a piece of music composed by Idabelle Firestone (1875-1954), an American composer and songwriter. She was born in Michigan and wrote many popular songs including, ‘Melody of Love’, ‘Bluebirds’ and ‘You are the Song in my Heart’. She was married to Harvey Firestone of the Firestone Tyre Company. This company sponsored the long-running radio and T.V. program called ‘The Voice of Firestone’ which had a 46 piece orchestra and aired classical and popular songs of the day. Richard Crooks (1900-1972), who sang and recorded this song, was a well-known American tenor who specialized in French and Italian opera and was associated with the New York Metropolitan Opera Company for many years. He was the host of ‘The Voice of Firestone’ from 1928 to 1945 and sang patriotic songs and popular hits etc. This copy of ‘In My Garden’ was sold at the shop of Miss H. M. Lindsay of 101 Liebig Street, Warrnambool. This shop is known to have operated in the late 1920s up to 1935 and was at first (in the 1920s) located at 180 Timor Street. This item is of some significance as an example of the type of music popular in the 1930s and an example of the work of Idabelle Firestone. It also has local significance as it was sold by a Warrnambool music store. This is a four page piece of music printed on seven sides (cover and five pages of music). The pages are cream-coloured, discoloured in places, with black printed musical notation and a back page printed in black containing advertisements for three other songs. The front cover has a sepia sketch of a woman (19th century or olde-worlde style) carrying a bunch of flowers and looking over a garden with an archway. There is a stamp (H. M. This folder came from the photographic studio of Alex Wilkins. For over 35 years in the 20th century he was one of the best-known commercial photographers in Warrnambool. In 1938 he purchased the building known as Jordan Studios (94 Liebig Street) and worked there until the 1960s. In the 1940s he became interested in producing movie films documenting local news and scenes. The name ‘McKinney’ on this folder indicates that the contents belonged to someone in the Warrnambool area as William McKinney had a general store in Lava Street in the 1870s and 80s and there are still McKinney residents in Warrnambool today. This folder is of some interest as it comes from the studio of Alex Wilkins, one of Warrnambool’s most important photographers in the 20th century. This is buff-coloured paper folded in three places to make a folder with sleeves at each end to insert photographs or photograph negatives. The folder is stitched with cotton at the top and the bottom and some of the stitching is coming undone. The inside sleeves have black printed advertising material on them and the front cover has a red and black image of two little girls. This is a book of music produced by Allan & Co. English- born George Allan (1826-1897) was a pioneer singing teacher in Melbourne who joined the music warehouse of Wilkie and Webster in 1862 and became the sole proprietor in 1874. By the late 1870s Allan & Co was the largest music warehouse in the Southern Hemisphere. It was bought by Brashs Stores in 1998 and since then it has had a series of other owners operating on a limited scale. Allan & Co. had a music warehouse in Warrnambool later in the 20th century. The supplier of this music item in Warrnambool was Mrs Fanny Rowan (nee Lavery) who had a music store at 143 Liebig Street after 1918. Later, in the 1930s, she had a music and stationery shop in the Oddfellows Hall and, as the owner of the building, also operated the Plaza Cinema in that building. This item is of some interest mainly because it was sold by Mrs Fanny Rowan, a prominent Warrnambool businesswoman in the first half of the 20th century. It is also of interest because it is an example of the music produced by Allan and Co, at one time the largest supplier of music books in Australia. Also Warrnambool had for some time an Allans Music Store at 76 Liebig Street. This is a soft-cover book of 50 pages containing the music of well-known community songs. The pages were stapled but the staples have been removed and there are rust marks and some tearing where the staples were removed. The book has a buff-coloured cover with brown printed material on the back and front covers. The back contains a list of the music titles in another booklet, ‘Primary Melodies’. The front cover has a stamp of the music shop of Mrs Rowan of Liebig street, Warrnambool and there is a brown border of two lines on the front cover. The inside first page has a list of contents. This is a program of the Centenary Procession that took place in Warrnambool in 1947 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the city’s founding in 1847. It was originally intended to celebrate the 100th anniversary in 1940 but these celebrations were postponed because of World War Two. In 1947 centenary celebrations were held but on a less lavish style. 1947 was a more appropriate year as 1847 was the year of the first land sales for Warrnambool and the arrival of the first European settlers in the town. The 1947 celebrations included a Grand Procession which was estimated to have been watched by 20,000 people. A similar number saw the bonfire and fireworks display in Albert Park the same evening. The celebrations lasted a week and included a choral thanksgiving festival in the Botanic Gardens, a massed band display and a ‘Warrnambool Can Make It’ exhibition of local manufactures. The well-known historian and Town Clerk at the time, Henri Worland took a prominent role in the organizing of the celebrations. This little booklet is of considerable importance because it contains a short description of the floats and the names of those connected with the various floats of the Warrnambool Centenary Procession of 1947. It not only gives us a better idea of what and who were in the procession but it now enables us to better label the many photographs we have of this procession and to identify the people in the photographs. The program is a valuable source of information for historians. It also is a good example of the type of celebratory procession that was popular 70 years ago. This is a paper program of the Warrnambool 1947 Centenary procession. It has four pages and a buff-coloured cover. The front cover has a sepia-toned photograph of the first car purchased in Warrnambool (1906) and on the back cover there is an advertisement for Lane’s Bus Services. The inside front cover has an advertisement for Guyett and Sons Furniture Store and there are other advertisements throughout the pages. The printed text on buff-coloured paper gives details of the 29 floats in the ‘Mechanized’ Section and of the 27 floats in the ‘Back to the Horse Pageant’ Section. The pages were stapled but the staples have been removed. There has been some silverfish damage.
