Bendigo TAFE is a regional provider of vocational education, training and assessment services, located in northern and central Victoria, Australia. The institute has been in operation in various guises since 1854. The institute was known as the Loddon Campaspe Institute of TAFE from 1987 to 1990, Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE (BRIT) from 1990 to 2009, before becoming Bendigo TAFE in 2009. Bendigo TAFE services a significant geographical area of approximately 25,000 square kilometres in central and northern Victoria, with a local population of 220,000. Report of 302 pages, published in March 1985 by Cullen Egan Dell Australia Pty. Ltd. ISBN 0724126554. The study was conducted to examine organisational requirements for the TAFE college system in Victoria. Conclusions and recommendations are included. The project team was asked to provide: a rationale for the organisation of TAFE colleges; a number of detailed structures and arrangements; a comprehensive position specification for the chief executive of a TAFE college; comprehensive position specifications for senior management positions in TAFE colleges; identification of organisational relationship issues and proposals to address them; and strategies for the implementation of organisation proposals. The team examines in detalis the arrangements within six TAFE colleges selected to provide a representative sample of the total network in Victoria. Although many positive features of TAFE in Victoria were noted, the team concluded that significant problems existed in the system at this time and that these impair the capacity of TAFE to operate in a fully efficient and effective way. A range of strategies are proposed to address these concerns along with new management structures and arrangements for colleges designed to meet the current and future needs of the community more effectively.tafe board victoria, nmit

The primary aim of this project was to report to the TAFE Board, Victoria on the implementation of life skills material into mainstream vocational education at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), with parallel emphasis on implementation models for statewide courses. The report is divided into 3 parts. Part A attempts to define the notion of life skills that developed from the work of Dr Stewart Sharlow’s ‘TAFE and basic life skills’, TAFE Services, Victoria, 1982 and the ‘Audit of TAFE middle level and technician humanities subjects,TAFE Services, Victoria, 1982. As a result of these publications a conference ‘Life Skills and the TAFE Practitioner’ was held in October, 1983 at Preston College of TAFE in Victoria with the aim of seeking a definition of the term life skill with regard to curriculum developments and classroom teaching. This report draws on these events and a number of programs developed or piloted in Victoria that are relevant to the issue. The report focuses on: 1. Work and Engineering Programme (RMIT,1984); 2. Diploma of Architectural Technology (RMIT); 3. Certificate of Law Enforcement Studies (RMIT); 4. Office and Secretarial Studies Certificate; 5. Life Skills at the Gordon College of TAFE; 6. Life Skills in the V.O.P. at Box Hill College of TAFE. Part B focuses on the experience of these activities towards curriculum and implementation needs, and evaluation and staff development requirements particular to these programs.
