This is a plaque given to the Quota Club of Warrnambool in 1983 when it was a finalist in an award given by the Victorian Council of Community Service Clubs. Quota Clubs were established to promote gender equality, to empower women and to assist people with physical and mental disabilities. The Warrnambool Quota Club was active in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s but no longer exists. This item is of some interest as a memento of the work of a service club of the pastThis is a small metal plaque (brass coloured). "The Association was officially launched in November 1967 with the aim of preserving and maintaining good relations and understanding within the cattle industry and between that industry and all bodies and organisations with which the industry is associated in the spheres of Government, and land use and marketing." (ref Mountain Cattlemen's Association web-site) Since 1972, the Mountain Cattlemen’s Association of Victoria, have produced a journal, “The Voice of the Mountains”. This journal commemorates the activities and history of the previous twelve months and bygone years of cattlemen and their families. This item was used in the library of Orbost Secondary College. The journals form a part of Victoria’s history and are a useful research tool.A 56 pp book covered in clear contact. On the front cover is a photograph of mountain cattlemen before the start of the 1st Annual Cattlemen's Cup.. This Document is the first in several plus photos and an article following the restoration of the Bendigo Cenotaph (Replica of the Cenotaph in Whitehall London). The letter is from the City of Bendigo Municipal Offices Lyttleton Terrace Bendigo is dated 13th April 1984 from the Building Surveyor Mr P.W. Phillips to Mr J.K. Barnes Secretary Bendigo RSL Sub Branch P.O.Box 449 Bendigo. Letter states that the Surveyors Report was adopted by Council on 21st November 1983 and would then be considered at Estimates later in the year. The Surveyors Report pages 2/3 gives a background report back to 1976 re its condition by the Building Surveyor at the time Mr R.H. Chellow and that an offer to fund at no cost was offered. Unfortunately this did not proceed. Council had approved funds for Stone work etc in the 1976/77 Estimates. The report is under several headings “Restoration of Cenotaph” being the history to this point. “Nature of Repairs Neccessary” - in brief, Extensive repairs, Granite structure is good, Sandstone needs 90% replacement, brick core in good order. “Estimate of Cost” A price of $30,000 for Budget purposes but could be as low as $25,000. “Recommendation” That Restoration be referred to the 1984/85 Estimates for consideration, copies to Bendigo RSL and State President RSL.Document 3 pages stapled together, front page is A4 and the pages 2/3 is Foolscap.Front page has a top section in blue, on the left is a depiction of a Mine Poppet Head, on the right is a Coat of Arms. This Officers Mess Fundraising Presentation photograph was taken in the Army Survey Regiment’s Officers Mess Long Room, in Fortuna Villa, Bendigo on the 7th of October 1983. The President of the Mess Committee (PMC) MAJ Graham Baker presented a cheque amount of $1,150.00 to the Chairman of Bendigo’s Olympic Fundraising Committee Mr Neville Howell. This photograph of Fortuna’s Darts Team was taken in the Ballroom at Fortuna Villa, Bendigo circa 1982-1983. Darts was a very popular sport played in the Army Survey Regiment’s messes for many years. Some of Fortuna’s highly skilled exponents of formed a team to participate in in the local competition held in several pubs around Bendigo. John Gartner was a fine printer and publisher, an author, a noted philatelist, and also collector of Australian banknotes and coins. He was born on 16 July 1914 and was largely self-educated, leaving school at fourteen for work following the death of his father. Gartner developed a strong interest in the history of typography and printing and was apprenticed at the Advocate where his father had been a linotype operator. Aged 17, Gartner bought a hand press and some fonts of type, and in 1937 acquired a platen press from which he set and printed his private press books, published under the imprint of The Hawthorn Press. Gartner had a strong collection of Australian bookplates. He also looked at the work of artists overseas and commissioned personal plates. He subsequently built an international collection with preference for artists who printed from wood.
