Built in 1864 by August Schwerkolt, the cottage was headed for demolition in 1963. Local residence rose up in protest, which led to the Nunawading Council purchasing the cottage and five acres of the surrounds in 1964. This manuscript was intended to be presented as a lecture at the Royal Institute of British Architects Annual Conference in November 1971 (see item D456). This manuscript was unfinished when Robin Boyd died in October 1971. It was published in 'Architecture Plus', 'Architecture Plus', Vol.1, No.7, August 1973. The front cover of the issue has an image of one of the sails of the Sydney Opera House. The lead article is by Robin Boyd titled ‘A Night at the Opera House’ (pp. 48-55). This is a very important article. Note the article is prefaced by remarks by the Editor, but the year of Boyd's death is incorrectly given as 1972, instead of 1971. The Weekly Times was first published on September 11, 1869, by a group of Melbourne businessmen who owned the now-defunct Daily Telegraph, with the stated aim to be a “journal of literature, sport, agriculture, science and politics”. Arthur Jones from the Eureka Improvement and Progress Association was holding a centenary exhibition of the "Affair at Eureka" and was canvassing support for the event from the principal of the School of Mines and Industries, R. W. Richards for material for their exhibition. Launched on 11 September 1922 and edited by Hugh Denison (who was also the owner of the Sydney Sun), the Sun News-Pictorial was Australia's first picture tabloid daily. t one stage The Sun News-Pictorial then became the highest-circulating Australian daily newspaper. It continued until The Herald Sun was established in 1990 as an amalgam of the afternoon daily, The Herald, and the morning daily, The Sun News-Pictorial. (ref.
