Badge awarded to Senior Citizen of the Year, Mrs Kitty Rose, in recognition of her outstanding efforts for blind and vision impaired people within the Bendigo region. These metal badges consist of silver writing (Association for the Advancement of the Blind) around the outside and the word 'Representative' between two lines in the middle, against a dark blue enamel background. It is the only identification badge held in the collection for the AAFB, which became the Association For the Blind in 1960. A Royal Humane Society of Australasia silver medal for bravery was awarded to Mrs Isadore Susannah Smith who, although blind, went to the aid of her husband, Arthur who was also blind, when he fell against a gas fire on July 2nd, 1967. Mrs Smith suffered second degree burns to her hands and wrists when she removed his burning pieces of clothing. On the front shows a woman in Ancient Greek clothing standing at left placing wreath on head of young man kneeling at right below Southern Cross; around edge is ' Virtute Paratum' and on the back is at centre within olive wreath 'Awarded to Isadore Smith 2.7.67'around edge is , Royal humane society of Australasia Instd. "Help the Blind" - A red, white and gold badge, circular, with four scroll shapes on the edges. At the top of the column is a golden wreath sitting on a golden bell, and inside the wreath two hands are clasped in silver. Carols by Candlelight is a Christmas concert held at the Sidney Myer Music bowl. Programs and candle holders were sold, and collections made during the event to raise money for the Austin Hospital and the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind. 3KZ also recorded the concert, which was played on radio on Christmas Day with a phone number to ring to donate. The Wickings were key supporters of the Association for the Blind, with John Wicking becoming President of the Association for the Blind for over 10 years, and his wife Janet taking a key role in supporting blind who are blind or have low vision.
