Annual reports were both a way of informing benefactors as well as generating new ones for charitable organisations. In 1867 an asylum and school for blind children began in Melbourne. Ali was 16. Ali is now studying art at Federation University in Ballarat after being generously awarded a full scholarship by the university. He is waiting patiently for his refugee status. von Mueller worked closely with the first Curator of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, George Longley in the establishing the Gardens and in examining students at the School of Mines. von Mueller inspired and contributed to the founding of the Ballarat Botanical Gardens and in preparing and training a new generation of Botanists in Ballarat.2 pages. p1. has a blue heading, tan subheading and a green portrait of von Mueller printed on the righthand top half of the page. Todd, William Joseph born Linton 1882, front row, first on left marked X next to his brother Arthur (Paddy), with hat. As William is approximately 6 years old here, this would date the image at c1888. Thus the headmaster at the time was probably Geo. Clarkson (1887-1891). Miss Milne was the lady teacher.
