This tin and its contents is a typical example of the common items used in a family home in Orbost in the first half of the 20th century. Tobacco tins would have been handy storage containers.1951.1 is a Havelock tobacco tin - Havelock Flake Cut - High Grade Tobacco. Inside the tin are various items. 1951.2 and .3 is a pair of white plastic earrings (1950's?). Folder - Mt Beauty Album, Premier Town Competition Mt Beauty July 1958
Mt Beauty & District Progress Association was formed when people of the Kiewa works system was to become a rate paying society no longer dependent on the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. 30 community members met on 4th December 1957 to form the new organisation.Mt Beauty and District Progress Association represented, protected and guided the community in arrangements for the future. The Association became more than a Chamber of Commerce. It represented a wide range of interests, a strong voluntary labor force largely responsible for the development of many of the on-going organisations It encompassed and set a strong program for tourism seen as being the security guarantee of the future. This was realised when Mt Beauty won The Victorian Premier Town contest in 1958. Thick brown cardboard cover with two steel rings for all 10 Appendix pages attached. The first section is not attached but inserted. The Australian Service Medal 1939-1945 was awarded to armed Australian forces and volunteer defence corps for their service during WWII. Created by King Geroge IV, this was the first distinctive Australian medal in the British system of honours and awards.Medallion attached to a navy blue, light blue, red and beige striped ribbon. The medallion depicts an effigy of King George IV of Great Britain and the commonwealth with the words: "GEORGE IV S VI (obscured component) G. BR. OMN. REX ET INDIAE IMP" in relief on one side.
