Cream linen fabric, rectangular in shape. One log edge is finished with a 16 cm wide band of lace. This lace has been.machine made, and attached to the linen with a zig-zag machine stitch. Fine, soft silk, woven with a two mm spot, spaced at one cm all over the fabric.Above the wrist-length sleeves finished with a six cm wide black velvet cuff. Sleeves are gathered at the shoulder and the cuff. A 26cm long ''over -sleeve'' is gathered at the shoulder, and edged with two bands of black velvet-one of .8 of 1cm, and one 2cm wide. Bodice has a 6.5cm stand-up mandarin style collar, which is boned in three places. Three metal hooks, and embroidered eyelets fasten the collar - (2 damaged). The shoulder line has 12 pintucks, 20 cm long, and finishing to give fullness to the bustline. Six pintucks either side of back opening. Over the shoulders is a loose panel - 25cm wide at the shoulder, tapering to 7.5cm wide at the waistline - five bands of velvet taper from shoulder to waistline, emphasing a V shape, from shoulders to narrow waist. As the Yarra became unsuitable as a source of water, several attempts were made to find alternative sources for the growing population of Melbourne. It was not until 1891 that the efforts to sewer Melbourne came to fruition with the setting up of the Melbourne Metropolitan Board of Works (MMBW), now known as Melbourne Water. From 1891 until 1992, it was the responsibility of the MMBW to safeguard public health by providing a sewerage system and a safe water supply system. In 1992, The MMBW merged with a number of smaller urban water authorities to form Melbourne Water. The township of Cocoroc was created in 1894 at the Metropolitan Sewage Farm (now the Western Treatment Plant) to house the workers it employed. The name 'Cocoroc' means 'frog' in the language of the Wathaurung people — the Traditional Owners of the land the treatment plant was built on. By the early 1950s there were nearly 100 houses, a town hall, football ground (and team), swimming pool, tennis courts, four schools and a post office, and by the 1970s some 500 people were living in Cocoroc. As it became too expensive for the MMBW to subsidise, Cocoroc was abandoned. By 1973 most of the houses and other buildings were demolished or moved to Werribee. All that is left now of Cocoroc are two small, empty, concrete swimming pools, a few weatherboard sheds and a big iron water tank. This photograph detailing an exterior view of the North Cocoroc State Primary School, is historically significant as it captures children at play within a purpose built community. The School that was one of four was built to educate the children of the MMBW workers. The back yoke of fabric has vertical strips on each side at shoulders. Kimono style short sleeves have a strip of lace along the top. The hem of the sleeve is trimmed with ribbon insert lace and edged with one cm scalloped lace. The skirt is gathered into the lower edge of the yoke, and the seam is trimmed with ribbon insert lace.The sleeve is made up of 7 cm of silk fabric with 20cm of Lace fabric with scalloped edge at hem. Nicholson, to Gertrude Sarah, youngest daughter of the late James Swindells, Esq., of Manchester. No cards. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/5779002 Barham House was built in 1850 by Edward Bernard Green (1809-1861) a successful land speculator. It was a magnificent residence built in the regency style to the design of architect John Gill and set in landscaped grounds of nine acres and included an ancient Swiss cottage. When Green died in 1861, his executor was his neighbour, William Nicholson (1816-65) who owned Fernleigh immediately to the north in Grey Street, but actually lived in Barham House during his time as Premier of Victoria 1859 - 1860 until his death in 1865. In 1866 Richard Twentyman purchased Fernleigh from the Nicholson Estate and a year later he married Nicholson's widow, Sarah. Both remained at Barham House until June 1870. In 1871 the building was substantially remodelled and re-named Eildon. Large residence on large elevated block for Frederick Christian Lange (1832-1888) and family in 1870. The architect Lloyd Tayler (1830-1900) designed it in an Italianate style. Over time adjoining allotments were purchased until the gardens covered nearly 15 acres. Lange was in partnership with Emil Thoneman trading under the name of Lange & Thoneman, merchants and general importers. Lange was also one of the local directors of the local Australasian directors for the Swiss Lloyd Marine Insurance Company. William Officer (1835-1913), pastoralist, bought the property from Lange in 1888 for 23,500 pounds. Following Officer's death the grounds were subdivided in 1914 and the house finally demolished in 1940. Built for William Wilmot Couche (1829-1890) probably in 1869. The architect was Lloyd Tayler (1830-1900) and it was designed in the polychromatic Lombardic style that had been introduced to Melbourne by the architect Joseph Reed (1822-1890). Couch was a prominent merchant and businessman. He founded the firm Couch Calder & Co, was director of several insurance companies and a member of the Melbourne Harbour Trust for many years. From about 1900 the house was renamed Wavenhoe. In the 1920s Wavenoe Avenue was constructed through its gardens and most of the land sold off including the blocks at the corner of Hotham Street and Alma Road.
