In February 1913 the Ballarat Junior Technical School opened its doors to its 86 pupils. The old bluestone building in the grounds of the Dana Street Primary School became their temporary for eight years. In its early years the school offered only a two-year course. The first year was of a general nature giving a thorough grounding in Mathematics and Instrumental Drawing, and introducing students to the various branches of trade work. The second-year students studied for the Junior Technical Certificate and specialized in a course of their choice - either a trade (Woodwork or Fitting and Turning) or a course leading to higher studies at the School of Mines. From In 1926 and from 1948 until the 1960s this bluestone building was used at the Ballarat Teachers' College. The book is arranged according to the Syllabus of the Second (or Nursing) Course of Lectures and to be used as a book of reference.The text is a dark tan leather back hardcover book. The book was written by E. MacDowel Cosgrave, MD, and published by the St. John Ambulance Association (London) in 1916. It contains a clean firm interior. The print is clear and readable. Contains a few illustrations - a little dulled at the top closed-edge of pages. Front and back covers have faint shelf wear marks. Good in its appearance considering its age. Some tearing away of pages from the spine but mostly tightly bound. 177 pages. non-fictionA handbook for all who have to do with sickness. Student course work from 1972 - an insect collection of 13 Orders from Victoria with class notes detailing killing methods of the era.Collected by BHC student Joanne Morris in 1972 from areas in greater Melbourne, Carrum, Cheltenham, Burnley, Eltham, Mildura, Clayton, Malvern and Ormond. Some from Mildura and Flinders. (1) Insects mounted with pins and hand written labels (Order, Family, Collected date and area). Two wooden boxes with slide in glass lids hand made by the student. (2) Folio of instruction notes, "Burnley College of Horticulture Entomology The Insect Collection." Directions on catching/collecting, killing, spreading and mounting the insects. The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. In 1977 8/13 VMR Regiment was reduced to an independent squadron A Squadron 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles and in 1991 was linked with 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse forming the VMR Squadron of that regiment.Unique collection of photographs showing the first years of an armoured regiment of the post-Second World War era Citizen Military Forces showing equipment, uniforms, training and social activity and some personalities.Black and white photograph of 13 soldiers standing in front of truck.
