A limited edition of a book "A History of the Bentleigh East Primary School No. 2083 formerly Bentleigh formerly East Brighton 1878-1978" published to mark the centenary of the Bentleigh East Primary School celebrated from 1 – 5th August 1978. The book was compiled by the Principal Peter Morris and is a collection of incidents, reminiscences and anecdotes arranged in chronological order to capture the character of the differing periods through which the school passed. It provides an insight to the development of the area and of the school and includes a list of school principals from 1878 – 1978, an honor roll for WW1 students etc. Notes on the Camm family who donated the School Centenary Book A newspaper article on the centenary celebrations. This file contains six items pertaining to the Caulfield Central RSL: 1/A page to which is attached a black-and-white photograph (date, source and photographer unspecified) of the Caulfield Central RSL, outlying garden and Australian flag. Some writing on the rear identifies the subject. 2/A typewritten letter, (1 page) dated 1946 (no date more specific than that specified), from the Chairman & Honourary Treasurer of the Caulfield Central RSL Appeal Committee (name unspecified) to the Mayor of Caulfield (name also unspecified), imploring the latter for a donation of $20,000 dollars for purposes of constructing a Memorial Hall to eulogize servicemen killed during WWII. Some rough working notes on rear side. 3/A flyer, undated (although presumably published in 1950), printed by Peter Isaacson Pty. Ltd., advertising a concert presented by the Ugly Ugly Man (Frank M. Beard) and the Malvern Tramways’ Harmonica Band to be held at Caulfield Town Hall on 06/06/1950 to assist the Welfare Funds of the Caulfield Central RSL and the Sailors, Soldiers and Airmen’s Mothers’ Association. The booklet details important aspects of Caulfield’s history including council procedures, the Caulfield Road District Proclamation, the first election and a summary of 100 years of local government with a description of the present Caulfield in 1957. The booklet also includes several pictures of various Caulfield landmarks and people including one of Caulfield City Councillors (11 men and 1 woman). This file contains four items: 1/Two typed lists of the names and years of circulation of Elsternwick and Caulfield Newspapers held at the Caulfield Library, the first with amendments in ballpoint pen and the second a revised version of the first dated 12/07/1988. Also included in the item is a typed list of what appears to be issues of the Southern Cross newspaper held at the library and an original handwritten list with a black and white photocopy of newspapers held at the Caulfield Library, dated 11/09/1988. These were provided by Gladys Vallati (longtime member; Head Librarian of Caulfield Library for many years). 2/Two extracts from the Caulfield Historical Society Newsletters (issues April 1975 No 15 and June 1975 No 16) detailing newspapers published and or circulated in Caulfield that are held at the State Library of Victoria, both undated and author unknown. The first has some handwritten annotations and a minute from the first meeting of the Caulfield Road Board on 25/11/1857 on the reverse side, listing the surnames of those present. Also included in the item is a typed draft for one of the extracts. 3/A six page handwritten list of newspapers circulated in the area of Caulfield held in Australian libraries, taken from a Union List dated 1967 in the Canberra National Library, author unknown. Details given of the newspapers include the title and dates of issue, in some cases also listing the merging of newspapers and ceasing of publication.
