This photograph was taken during the upgrade of the Bendigo Railway line at Sunbury Station. The upgrade took twelve months to complete and during that time bus services replaced the trains.A coloured photograph of construction on the site of the Sunbury Railway Station. The two glass water containers/bottles are thought to have been used in railway passenger trains in the c. 1900s. The Wodonga train line and train station opened in November 1873 when the section of the line from Wangaratta to Wodonga was completed. This medical / hospital equipment was used in the Tawonga District General Hospital which was built in the 1950's specifically for the increase in population due to the Kiewa Hydro Scheme.Historical: Shows the development of hospital equipment. Provenance: Used in the Tawonga District General Hospital - possibly in the Maternity Ward - which was remote and therefore required good equipment. Good condition and good interpretation capacity. Clear glass bottle used for feeding baby's formula. It has a hexagonal base. The front has an embossed gauge with horizontal lines marking ounces from 8 at the top. On the opposite face is embossing and to the left of that another face also embossed. The sides are flat and straight tapering to form a round shape to a very short neck. This photograph is of a train on the small rail bridge which crosses over the Burn Road Newmerella cutting. In 1912 work was underway to complete the Bairnsdale to Orbost section of the railway. This meant the end of river transport for the area. The railway was opened on April 10 1916 and closed in 1987.
